Right, yesterday I spent the day rubbing down my front wings, sorting out any stone chips and scratches, I then primed and gave it a coat of paint. Today I went out to finish the second wing but noticed that the wing I sprayed had not quite got the finish I wanted (it looks absolutely shocking!)  Everything was bone dry, I left the primer for a few hours before I painted, I'm guessing it's the primer as the paint hasn't peeled. Why has it done this?? |

Was it because I didn't laquer the paint? |

if it where me, i would rub it done with some 600 wet and dry, working up to 1200, get it flat and go from there!! ps i need to speak to my gf to see if shes got the request or whatever it is |

Hi Rebel. Looks as tho' there's some paint-incompatibility going on there. Since it's the primer coat that's 'moved' - shrinking when the top coat was applied - my suspicions are that the primer was not compatible with whatever was underneath it (you're going to tell me now it was put on to bare metal and shoot me down in flames, aren't you...  )What type of primer and top coat was used? And what was the primer applied to? |

I'd go with that. It looks like incompatibility, did you check what type of paint was on there originally? It's possible that you have used lacquer paint over an enamel based primer to get those results. Putting on too thick a layer of topcoat can also get you those wrinkles. Several thin coats with adequate drying time in between is the way to go. Unfortunately the only fix for what you have there is to take it all off again. |

another possebility is that the paint reacts to the primer, so the primer is allright, the paint is allright but the combination of the 2 together goes wrong, I take all products from 1 supplier so everything matches. p.s. when the primer was wrong to the underground you would have this reaction before the painting........... (I'm not an (paint) expert so everything I write (here) is at your own risk)........ |

I was proud till this morning lol it wasn't quite bare metal all what was in there was well sanded and rough, can't wait to start over lol trouble is it's the same paint and primer I used for the rear arch and didn't have a problem, I'll rub the other wing down to metal and try that

I've had similar when the primer was laid down too thickly so could well be that, in the absence of any other reaction with the topcoat etc. A rub down and try again seems the best option. |
