we have been here before...

im buying electronic ignition for pops :) but im torn between 2 tried and tested units, both around the same cost, both do the same thing, lumenition Or 123? i know racer's use 123 or lumention (maybe some tips from our techy's from this years race team?) as simons car was running lumenition and we didnt have any problems with the system!

lumenition currently has my vote out of personal choice and having previously heard about 123 and some issues with that...

i would just appreciate some honest opinions on both set ups to help me decide which one to buy :) will be giving roy a call quite soon though!

thanks in advance!

Is lumenition points assist? I am using (and always have) used 123. so i cannot really comment on any comparison. all i can say it that in the 4 and a bit years i have had my car, i have never had any problems due to the 123. I guess lumenition has the advantage of swapping back to points a bit easier if something gets fried?

123, I've fitted it to mine and never looked back, a lot of people wire it all up and then try to set the timing, this gives the pcb a memory and makes it useless, connect it up as the instructions tell you to don't put the last wire on until timing is set.

Used both, prefer 123.

Personally, i cant commemt on lum or 123 as i have never come Accros them, i am however sticking with points, simply 'cos theyve never let me down before, ive learnt how to fiddle with them, and at 12 quid a go its cheap!! Altho 123 and lim (correct me if im wrong) werent around during production, im sure they would of fitted them standard?
Anyway my opinion, is keep it simple, they chose points in factory so for me its normal points
i geuss this post is pointless and of use to you joe but oh well ;)

joe- lumention is pretty much the same as 123 as far as im aware, both a magnetic system which detects the cam and doing a similar job as the points would!

just realised 123 is actually cheaper than lumention! hmmm

james - i've been using points since i started driving which is around 18months now, but one minute theyre alright and shes running fine, next thing somethings not right and im constantly adjusting and wondering whether elecy is a much simpler idea! however, im not just buying it because this has gone wrong or thats not right... i've wanted it for a while and i believe its worth trying!

I'm fairly confident, bit like all things there are and odd few that are faulty, just send the thing back and replace it. It's up to you matey like you said it's worth a try
