Post subject:  Paint the floor with?

Hi all

I had a rusty floor (after my big leak, now doesn't leak) and I put Kurust on it, I have been recommended to put Hammerite on the on the floor... it that a good idea? Would anything else be better?

Thanks.

I used hammerite on the floor of my old 2CV years ago and had no problems with it.

does that kurust stuff work ? i got some and just wondering

be warned, i painted my floors with hamerite, and 3 days later paint hadnt gone off, so had to remove most of it with thinners, the stuff i didnt remove with thinners ie the back and under the back seat, is not still sticky and still hasnt gone off, after about 2 or 3 weeks!!!

maybe i didnt stir the paint enough, would be great if someone could tell me why?

maybe the floors where grease,

How thick were the coats of paint, and did you leave the windows/roof open for it to dry?

not that thick, but not thin, yes did all that, then a few days later did another coat over the top to see if it was just being strange, just the same, even left the sun on it after a week to see if that worked!

When i talked to hammerite about drying times. They quoted a drying time of up to 6 weeks . I painted a chassis after a month it was still soft that you could peel it off with your finger nail.
Never used it since.

Sounds normalish, hammerite always take a while to go hard. I seem to remember one of the instructions on it is that you can only only add further coats either less than three hours after the last, or several months later, not sure what it does otherwise, but could be the answer to it not drying.

im sure your correct,

just seems a bit, in convenient, that i paint all the floors in my car, to find 3 days later its still sticky, and driving without touching the floor became a pain in the but, so i removed the paint on drivers side, but the paint on toeboard is dry, rest thats left isnt grrr

i have some red led, but its gone hard in the tin, well a thick layer of skin, about an inch thick, so added some white spirit and mixed it all in, hopefully itll be good paint again soon, if not then oh well nothing lost, but red led is good stuff, i used por15 in my boot floor (see my thread) and it seemed very good, it forms a rock hard solid layer, which can be known to flake if the floor where to flex, some people swear by por 15, some people hate it, i personally quite liked it, and i went for the "starter kit" which inclued, metal cleaner (de grease etc) metal ready (dunno wtf it does!) but claims to kill rust before you paint, and then i used the por, i was amazed how much a little tin went, i had loads left, but a little tin isnt enough to do the floors, i did a few coats also, so if you did get por 15, get a few little tins, im sure a few people will tell you its good and a few its shit, but ive had no problems as of yet with it, it comes in three colours, white, black, clear. and i got it from
http://www.frost.co.uk/productList.asp?catID=24&frostCat=Painting&subcatID=37&frostSubCat=POR-15
they seem to sell denitrol and a few other things, denitrol, from what old nail (i believe, it was old nail) said it is good stuff...
might of been lenny who said though

anyway im sure you can get it from else where but i get there catalouge ever 4 months!
