 Tappy problem...
right, i fitted the cylinder heads off my old dyane engine (AM2) yesterday, keeping it complete with the pushrods aswell from that engine. Fitted them both with new spectacle oil seals, new manifold gaskets inlet and outlet and new rocker cover gaskets. i adjusted the valve clearances to (0.20mm inlet and 0.25mm outlet) as per Ken's instructions, just like on the old cylinder heads... except now im being deafened by the sound of extremely excited tappets.... i dont know whether its the heads, or whether i've done something wrong, but the tapping is extremely loud and i dont know what else todo, i've checked the clearances and they are all fine, i thought dyane/2cv cylinder heads were the same, or are the pushrods different lengths to 2cv ones? any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks, joe

 Re: Tappy problem...
yeah my feeler gauge is in mm and we havent got a torque wrench at the moment, so i did them finger tight and then half a turn with the ratchet.

 Re: Tappy problem...
I've seen push rods fitted the wrong way around or maybe loose push rod heads

 Re: Tappy problem...
i made sure that the rods stayed in each tube as they came off the dyane engine, and before they went onto my engine Viking, also the rods we're seated into the rocker arms nicely, could it really be something as simple as i've over tightened the rockers? surely if they were any looser they'd start spaffing oil everywhere?
Adrian, we must have been typing at the same time!! i didnt see anything earlier although the rockers had oil in them, and i didnt try starting without the covers on!
but yes, i finger-tightened the rocker cover nuts, then it was 180 with the ratchet!

 Re: Tappy problem...
Joe it might be worth getting the terminology right as its a bit confusing as to what you've done
rockers are the arms that move, the tappet screws are the ajustment on the end and the big jelly moulds that cover it all are the rocker covers.
