I may be wrong, James, but I'm sure that somebody who has passed their driving test since c1997 has to have their licence altered or even have another driving test(involving towing...strangely enough :? ). Just check before spending hard earned cash on a tow bar. :)

Also, take it from somebody who has just returned from northern England and also visited the French National towing a Comb-Camp trailer-tent(un-braked and weighing around 250-300kgs)....2cvs do struggle desperately, especially on motorways, and more especially on inclines. Since I've started towing with the 2cv, I've started to go grey

yer, i only really want it so i can tow my friends trailer around (and nto for fun!) as i occasionally need to dump some crap that i dont want in my car and coudl use his trailer, i know how to back a trailer etc as i used to have a sit on mower with two hitches on, and used to pull boats in and out of water, managed to push two boats at once, one on front one on back, difficult as you cant see where your going, but about 1 and half tonnes, and then a few weeks later the gearbox sheared off!
not bad for 8hp brig and strat

anyway off topic

i can get a hitch from local scrapyard did that last time..

just need to know whether there is an alternative to paying someone to fit one or to buy the one that roy does (which im happy to do) but just wanted to know if there was a third option! if anyone has put something together..

Go with the ECAS option, I say. Hope that helps. :)

yer i think your right, does look like a good piece of kit!

friend of mine bolted one to the front bumper mounts and used his 2cv to push his boat round the garden!

another thing to add to the list

thanks for your opinion :)

I was meaning to start a towbar thread sometime soon, so hope you don't mind if I hijack this one James, is is on topic and I guess concerns your third option James.

I need to make myself a towbar before August, I'm way too tight to buy a new one, and I was just wondering what different designs there are around that I could copy, and what would people recommend was best? Pictures are good. :D

A ring hitch on a 2CV? They're only used on trailers which exceed 3500kg gross. A trailer like that is too heavy for a 2CV even when it is empty.
