My electrics appear to be beginning to play up. The headlamps and dashboard lights are flickering quite badly every so often and the charge meter on the dash is occasionally dipping down towards the red. My voltage regulator is reasonably new and all my electrical connections appear tight. I've cleaned the earth on the bulkhead. My alternator brushes are a bit worn but don't look to be too bad. What else can I check? Electrics are not, shall we say, my strong point. :)

a muppets opinion (mine) could be one of the wires has bad wire inside, or bad wire as in all choroded etc or could be a loose connections (Even though you said there all tight you never know) have you checked battery voltage?

sorry if ive said what youve probably done

On stationairy or on revs?

When stationairy, that's normal since the alternator hasn't got much power @ low revs.
Thing you can do about this, is place a relay between the wire from the contactor to the voltage regulator.

Sounds like a knackered voltage regulator to me - if its a electro mechanical one, ditch it for an electronic one.

it's got a solid state one on it already, and it's pretty new. My money is on a dodgy connection to the regulator, everything else looks ok.

Ah right - I was just thinking that the replacement may have been the old style - I would get out the emery paper and clean all the contacts especially the earth....
