i know ive spelt it wrong but oh well.. i came up with the idea, would and could it be possible and pratical if on a long journey to have an auxilary (spelling!) fuel tank, something like we use on boats.. something like this.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-Outboard-Fu ... 3a572c35ed yes its 60 but i can probably source it cheaper.. anyway if you where doing a long journey and didnt have time or couldnt stop, surely you could devise a system to switch between tanks or plug it up so it takes fuel from both tanks (although if one runs out first itll draw air!) or even do away with the normal tank and have 2 of thouse.. also good idea if you keep having fuel siphoned, take the tank with you !! strange idea but thought id share it! |

Something like this:  This car is used in last years Touareg Trail, with this extra fuel tank. For more info (in Dutch): http://www.2cvtransahara.nl/index.php?o ... &Itemid=41 Fuelsystem now has 2 valves to choose from wich tank the fuel will get to the engine. |

I'm very keen on this idea, I am a big fan of driving long distances without having to stop. It's something im really considering on my 2cv. The standard tank is a little impractical for that car and I have a pair of Van tanks which I think would mount behind the front seats or onto the rear inner wings to improve the range. I know there are a few cars out there, Jags, I think, which have two tanks. My thoughts would be to have both tanks with a filler neck, for easier refuelling at pumps, although I'm not sure of the most practical way of balancing the level in each tank so they are the same. |

its removable, but you need to undo a few bolts, brackets and piping i guess. just throw a 5 liter canister in the back or source a ami super tank. 40l, so 15 liter of extra driving range

You're gonna probably need a wee or some food before you get from one end of the country to the other anyway, and really, nowhere is that far away from anywhere else. Not to mention risking driving tired. Epic raids etc I imagine are a different matter. |

I'd not really want my extra fuel tank 'wanking round in the breeze', it should be securely fixed even if it's removeable. Tom, am I right in thinking fitting a larger Ami tank means modifying the boot floor on a 2cv? Louise, when I picked the shell up for the race car I did the whole trip to Yorkshire and back with no stops at all, and The only reason I stopped on the way home from Kelso? Low fuel. As my old dear used to say 'go when you can, not when you have to' I know long distance non-stop driving isn't how everybody likes to do it, but once I'm on the road, I just like to keep going (thelma)

no i know just an idea though.. if the fuel in france is redicoulsy expensive or whatever! 2 removable 25l tanks would fit perfectly in the back, plus the 25l in the main tank, could go round the world! i like the fact that that tanks removable, but not easily! and when filling those tanks im on about up, could just take them out the car  and one of those jerry cans is ok, but have to stop and put it in tank |
