Post subject:  Bitumen paint as a rustproofer/sound deadener

Hey folks,
I have just finished completely rust proofing my '67 Ford Fairlane (gonna sell it an get me another 2cv)...I used a huge tin of "Bitumenous Paint" apparently for protecting "Metal and concrete". I had never used this technique before although my fathers Renault 4 lasted for years and was covered in it. The paint itself dries in about 24hrs (thinly coated) and is hard but still flexible and has a lustre like a really good spray job. It doesn't smell and can be thinned with white spirit or parafin. I reckon it was designed for building work. It goes on easy with a brush but is quite thick. (It is bitch to get off skin.....I look like a god damned dalmation now  )

I am very impressed with it, I reckon it would serve a 2cv well, has anyone else used it on theirs...??? Granted it is not suitable for cavity filling (waxoyl there I reckon) but on the floorpan, chassis, and underside of panels and as a sound deadener /stonechip resister I reckon it is the Bogs Dollox. NOTE: This is NOT the soft tarry sound deadener stuff.

Anyway, Let use know what you reckon, bad or good idea? etc. etc.

Best regards,
Shane.

P.S.-Why is it your car is never as good as when you are selling it...sod's law I guess

I have used it on floor pans both topside and underneath.

Seems to work beautifully, and is very cheap. A thick coat however can take over a month to dry, and it burns like hell if you weld near it.
