Ok, i break wipers quicker than neil can down a bottle of wine and I am running short on spares and want to know how to fix or adapt them.

firstly: I have an old style wiper motor (2 wires) on the van which the linkage etc seems tight on that i want to fit to a new style loom (connector plug) How can I do this? I tried but just blew fuses and stuff... (must order fuses!)

Image

fitted a normal 2cv plug wiper motor and it works except all the ones i have are worn and crap and jammed etc...

Hi Timmy, If you're looking at the colour code in the haynes it can be misleading. Some bastard at citroen decided to use the same colour wires both sides of the wiper motor plug but in different orders. The socket you've got on the loom has 4 wires;

black,- earth
grey with blue collar,- live from switch
grey with white collar,- ignore this one
grey with black collar,- live with ignition.

Are you sure the switch is connected correctly? Check that the grey/blue collar goes live when the switch is on.
Also the grey/blue collar should show continuity with the grey/white collar when the switch is off. (not important, just for reference)

EDIT I've just looked at the Haynes diagram for a two wire motor, I had assumed the two wires were live and earth, it appears they're not, they're switched live and permanent live, the motor earths through the casing. Are the two motor wires blue, and red?
Connect the blue motor wire, to the grey wire with a blue collar in the socket. Make sure the motor casing is earthed. The motor should work.
To make the wipers self park, connect the red motor wire, to the grey with black collar in the socket.
If the wipers come on with the ignition and won't go off, then the wires from the motor are the wrong way around.
Don't plug either wire into the black wire in the socket, that will blow the fuse.

If that still blows fuses have you checked that the motor works? take it off and connect it straight across the battery, Blue wire-Live, Casing-Earth .
If the wires get hot it might be a bit seized, sort out the tight linkage.

HTH.

As with all stuff
i developing a special set of plates to re inforce the wiper spindle mountings
Reason

As always the flimsy wiper motor mounting always bends very easily when the wipers go wonky.
the spindles go for a walk when they get worn and this causes the mounting to bend and the wipers to get stuck

Solution manufacture a special support bracket
(Zinc plated.) which bolts onto the original ( under the spindles)
thus reinforcing the whole set up
Not a problem
at the moment i am sorting it out and it should be ready in about 1 month!!

i got 1 on thest in the orange car,

i will let u know the results
