A few questions for the clever folk out there. Is there any reason why I shouldn't put my bare cylinder heads in the parts washer at work? I didn't pay attention when taking the rocker shafts off ( ![]() Can you get away with using regular M7 bolts for the bottom bolts on the rocker shafts? If not, anybody got a spare special socket/tool they want to sell/lend to me so I can do them back up rather than using mole grips! Cheers clever people. |

1) Can't see why not, although I've never cleaned a piston barrel with anything other than a bit of rag. They don't get that mucky, in my experience. 2) The rocker shaft washer order is in the haynes manual, but as far as I remember the thrust washer (the thin wavy one) goes between the rocker and the slightly thicker flat washer. The 5mm (or so) wide metal ring goes on the other end of the rocker shaft from the washers, and the markings on the shaft should make it obvious which end is which. 3) Just use a small adjustable spanner. 4) Pay attention next time! ![]() Hope this helps ... |

Cheers John. Good to see you're back on the scene-I think there's some photos on here somewhere of you getting stuck (?) at the Halloween camp one year at Shrewsbury! ![]() |

what John said you can put the heads thru the parts washer or even a dishwasher if you arent in a relationship with a female or share the washing machine with anybody of a female persuasion ![]() bolts if you can find an M8x1.25 x 35 allen capscrew they can be substituted anything with a shank isnt going to fit, black allen screws are usually 10.9s so strong enough (dont go buying B&Q hex heads at 4.4);) Sean Edit and old 1/4 in drive socket can be made in to a "peg spanner" you have to file 2 of the opposite sides of the square hole with a round file then braze, weld or attach the modified socket to another so it then fits on to the drive of your torque wrench, bit of a waffle but youll work it out ![]() |

So, they're M8 then? Reckon Relay Brake caliper to yoke bolts should do the job then? ![]() |

not familiar with them! often brake parts use a Metric fine for the higher clamping force just go into my local industrial ironmongers and buy a big bag 35mm length. it is actually an imperial size and i now have to ask for M8 1 1/2" allenbolts (or whatever 35mm is) its a bit like the 2 Ronnies "Four Candles" sketch 35 seems to be the longest setscrew( threaded all the way to the head) after that they get a shanked section that binds before the rocker shaft is clamped http://www.dfwishart.co.uk/gb/product/__6160097120__/G008001/Fasteners%20&%20Fixings/Socket%20Cap%20Screws/Metric/M%208%20X%2035%20SOCKET%20CAPSCREWS%20%28200%29 Sean |
