Post subject:  Crunching gearbox

Hey all, some advice if possible. My 85 Special crunches whilst going from 4th to 3rd, it only does this at higher speeds and sometimes if you get the revs right you can avoid the crunch. My gearbox is also quite noisy (compared to other 2cv's). My question is whether it is better to go for a new/old box or have mine rebuilt? Any opinions?

Thanks

The gear-change problem may be a busted syncromesh for 3'rd gear.

And the noise is probably worn bearings. As gearbox-parts is quite expensive, a used one on good condition would be cheapest. But don't throw away the old one. Gearboxes will be hard to find in the future I think, and needs to be overhauled...
