Went for a blast last night, to test the new clutch that I installed on Sunday. Clutch worked like a dream... but an otherwise triumphant roar around the dark lanes of Worcestershire was spoiled a bit by the fact that I remained f-f-freezing throughout the trip, even with the muff in place.
Does anyone know of any add-on heaters, to take the edge off Siberian conditions? (I'm not looking for the ecas air-blower contraption that fits onto the cardboard tube, by the way, I'm thinking more of a self-contained heater unit.)

A hurricane lantern kicks out a surprising amount of heat, and is remarkably hard to kill yourself with, while being very cheap to boot!

You also get maximum retro points for trying to reattach your alternator with the fairly negligible amount of light they kick out.

Top idea! I've got half a dozen knocking about in the shed. If I crank them all up I could not only keep warm, but provide a retro pimped ride lighting vibe. Might even hang one inside each wheel arch for an exterior light show.

A better bet would be to insulate and draughtproof, although you can fit an additional petrol- or diesel-powered space heater. Here in the UK, Mark "4x4 Superfinn" or SubaruPete are the experts, having done a couple of Finn winter raids, or any of the Scandinavians.

Apart from needing 120v US mains power...

This is more the kind of thing I was thinking of

Except they only list diesel ones now - I seem to recall Pete had to take a jerrycan of diesel with him - and they cost about a thousand pounds...

Seriously. Insulate first.

No doubt I'll have replies to this, along the lines of 'holding water and causing corrosion'. But if the floors are well protected, use a nice automotive carpet, it's suprising how well it insulates :D If you want, you can whip it out once a week(the carpet ;) ), to dry. Should cost about £10 at a classic car autojumble and be more than enough.
