I don't want to sound like a dickhead here James, but if you'd read the thread over and over you'd know you need to use a 46mm spanner and if you'd taken a bit of time to poke your head under the car and actually look at the bit you're trying to replace then you'd see for yourself how to do it.

I'm all for trying to help you out but mate , seriously, you need to start by helping yourself!

£20, Sorted! You'll need a 44mm spanner, a pair of axle stands, a grinder and a welder. Just remember the order everything comes out in, or better still, as you remove a part from one can, fit it into the other, making sure you mark which end is which.

Just to make completely and utterly sure before I go and buy a couple of spanners - it is 2 X 46mm spanners I need?

Is the 44mm spanner for something else? Or a typo?

Sorry if I'm being dumb!

For suspension, yes. Unless it's an Ami or van, then it's 50mm.

Typo or confusion with rear drums...

James,
just one 46mm spanner, plus a good quality pair of water pump pliers, is often sufficient to remove the suspension end fittings.

Note that you need to undo the nut nearest to the canister in order to remove the threaded end fitting from the chassis, after which it can be put in a vice to deal with the 'outer' nut.

If the nut is rusted onto the threaded sleeve, put the spanner onto the nut and give it a few good hits with a hammer, rotate it until the next flat is presented and hit it again.
By the time you've done all 6 flats, especially if you've used some penetrating oil ( or diesel) on the threads, it should have freed off.

While those threaded end fittings are off the car, cut 2 slots into the outer ends with a grinder, then you can use a length of 30 x 3 steel to lock the sleeve in place whilst tightening the 46mm nuts.

Finally, when putting it all back together, use plenty of grease... ;)

I think Russel is right, nothing against you or others but start doing, otherwise nothing happens.

If you'd looked two pages back (the last time you asked the question) then you'd have seen the same answers you got here!
