I really hope you're not putting a a used fuel filter in your mouth and blowing.

Unleaded petrol contains benzene which is a class 1 carcinogen, anemia and other blood diseases, including leukemia are some of the joys associated with it.

No, that's normal too, if it's on the chassis rail under the left cylinder, although usually it's a piece of rusty steel. Conviniently it's a perfect place for the filter. ;)

All the rubber fuel lines were cracked & blistering so they had to come out too really.

I'm not sure if it's because I stink of unleaded but I'm sure there's less of a petrol smell in the cabin.

The CX pulled a very similar trick once... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrvE3b77A8A

i tend to find the cheap fuel pipe is crap, i fitted some cheapo stuff to mine from chassis leg to pump, and its aobut to crack, and its 4 months old, now the stuff from the carb to pump is about 5 pounds per metre, nice and flexible, not a mark to suggest cracking, and thats why id pay a bit more for decent stuff

incidently, does anyone know in MM what size fuel pip the 2cv uses (if its standard) as im wanting to order some just incase ;)

2CV fuel pipe is 6mm (internal obviously) but if you try getting it in the local motor factors they'll probably sell you 1/4"(6.4mm), which is a bit slack but just about works with a good quality fuel hose clamp. In the past I've bought 6mm suff from Roy, although I can't see it listed now, I had no sort of woven layer and fitted well enough to just push on and stay there with no clamp, I believe that's as original.

You may also find 5.5mm(7/32") in a good motor factors.

James,
I'd have thought that with your nautical connections, you'd have found some decent quality fuel hose at the local chandlers?

A few years back, I'd got so fed up with the short life of the stuff available from motor factors that I paid a visit to the local boat centre and found some 'Marine grade' hose which so far has proven much better.

The type I use now is nominally 1/4" bore, but it's thick walled and a good push fit on the 6mm stubs on the carb and pump so no clips are needed, just as Citroen intended.

Btw, I've seen more than enough fuel hoses fail or leak next to clips which have been over-tightened, especially if worm drive clips have been used instead of the band type...

ken the stuff they use in the boating world that i really want, wehich is indistructable (through years of testing ;) ) us the stuff yamaha make, but i cant source it anywhere, i would imagine it'd be very expensive, but worth every penny.
you still find crap fuel pipe in the chandlery though, just have to be careful ;)

Thanks James, will be keeping an eye on it.

And if it doesn't last as expected, I will be asking the boat centre what this "SAE J 1527:2004 USCG A1 - ISO 7840:2004 A1 CE-0474 RINA LLOYD'S REGISTER" business is all about... ;)
