i'd happily try a bottle around the country roads near the unit... although some are quite bouncy and twisty.... espcially with me flying round corners at 60 ;) might get abit wet and flammable oo eck...

as you've all been eagerly waiting for me to post about her being magnificent and back to her former speedy glory i thought today would be the day to post... we havent replaced the full fuel line, only the rubber sections, with brand new pipe... sucess.... or not... every connection has a clip and everything was double checked and seemed tight... so all i have left is to replace the full plastic pipe going the length of the car!

dad still thinks its this fuel pump... as things did feel dramatically different when i put this one on the car, but how would air be getting into the fuel pump?

take off the fuel cap put your mouth round the filler pipe and blow....

this will pressurise the fuel line and you can check to see if it leaks juice out anywhere

just did that.... cant find any sign of leaking/dripping and it definately holds pressure.... because when i took my mouth away it was like wooooooosh in my face! could always rig up the air hose to it somehow and try pressureising it that way?

i was just about to post similar.

Take it for a run without the filler cap on. (don't brim the tank though!)

Ok youv'e eliminated leaky fuel pipe

so now its fuel pump. it will draw air as the back of the diaphragm is open to the atmosphere if it has started to crack it will let in air.

new pump 25quid from ecas and itll work a treat on the new fuel pipe so youve future proofed that bit of the car ;)

doubt its a blocked filler cap as they all leak like sieves when the car falls over

i've already tried the filler cap after a few runs, short distance and long... only the slightest little puff, sometimes nothing... i will try running her without the cap... i didnt actually realise fuel pumps could let in air, i thought they were sealed! maybe i will put the original one back on her then!

I had fuel pump probs a while ago on my '88 2CV .....the most notice-able thing was a misfire on R/H bends ....[like,going around a traffic island] ....I can only take that as meaning that the fuel was sloshing around inside the carb ....no amount of carb cleaning or adjusting float heights cured it.
The problem was eventually cured by a new pump, and on taking the old one to pieces [just to see how it worked  ....honest ;) ] ....it was completely fubar'd.
