If you'd come with us at the weekend you'd have found them easy to come by, Sam practically tripped over that one and resisted all of my pleas to chuck it in the pikey van! (this is the same reason we had to cart home a dyane bumper and a broken 60s grille)

I'm never going to hear the end of that grille am I?

What I don't understand is that with all the perfectly decent stuff we threw away, you elected to keep, as a souvenir, a broken bent and useless bit of tat!

You've presumably seen his rear lights; yet still expect taste and judgement? :P

Post Re: Engine,
success?

sort of

apart from only firing and trying to run a few times.. nothing going to try do the timing ? poimnts box was solid and stuck in its way to advanced position, so i will find a text lamp, and sort the timing out properly after a trip to the ice cream van..

pinched the starter out my car, used a diagrham chris collins sent me last night to wire up the starter, used the windscreen wiper button and another switch...

killed the battery i was using to start it so thats also on charge while i get a large 69

i shall return

Post Re: Engine,
did one of you admin edit that?!?!?!?!

just to clear this up it ws a 99 with 2 flakes not a 69

:)

right so got back, battery didnt really have long enough to charge plus i needed the car, so i gave it a quick go, it coughed, nearly into life,

bit of embaresement really, i had a dodgy live to the coil which is why i had no joy ealier
so flicked the switch of my home made bench starting system, and it coughed, nearly started, then nothing
now
its against my religion, but on this one occasion i was considering using some easy start,
thoughts?
i poored a bit of gas straight into the carb
no joy

when i had the carb apart to check to make sure not full of shtie i got the numbers of the jets, will post about that later..

now, my question of the day is, or two questions, 1, the points box is siezed on and in place, how do i budge it without smashing it to pieces?
2. the rear of the manifold has 2 bolts, 2 of which are missing, one on each side, will this make a massive difference? (ive also had manifolds off so i would assume the gaskes are fucked now but they didnt look too bad!)
im feeling it will start, as it coughed, just need to get some bits so i can keep trying

anyone got,
a spare coil,, spare starter, ? will pay money for it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh other lesson i learned is the jump leads i used are shite, would hardly turn motor over, (they where "heavy duty" ones, and they started to melt!
so for those of you who have seen my battery cables, i used those, worked a treat, bloody marvelous!!

Post Re: Engine,
Right im guessing you have taken the 2 screws out of the crnkcase?

sometimes you can get a flat screwdriver in one of the slotted holes-but not into the threaded part then lever towards the centre line of the engine so the shaft of the screwdriver hits the side of the points box

or take the cover off and with a set of pliers/moleys etc grip the top lip of the box and pull, use card or cloth so you don't marr the box.

the 2 rearmost bolts on the manifold are the inlet side and so are pretty vital

clean plugs clean the points and hope the condenser isnt shot, set all as per the 2-4-6-8 rule and it should start without cans of miracle spray

I was logging on to tell you how to make a start wire but sounds like you have it sorted!

Post Re: Engine,
I thinkll bung a new points and condenser set in anyway as I'm going to change them on the long run, donevalve clearances, I recon it's down to timing it's about a mile to far advances

Thanks Sean!!
