Post Re: Chassis woes
I noticed how much it flexed when I put my weight on one side of the rear chassis leg. I can't see how it would be any different to putting a toolbox in one side of the boot. I wobbled it in that video by holding the rear legs and gently putting a bit of weight on one side then the other. I did the same with the badly patched up citroen chassis under my car in the same circumstances and it didn't move at all. It's my belief that it's this flexing which leads to the fatigue cracks which occur at the front kick up on those chassis, of which I've repaired at least three. It is a 2cv city chassis.

no easy way of saying it but....

My car was fitted with a 2cv City chassis last May.I hope its a good one.Having seen the video on flexing,I will see what mine does when the engine is back in.

you have all the elements needed to replicate the experiment!

There is usually enough people warning about it but when we do were "talking crap", or get ourselves or the admin in to hot water. But rest assured you can go off roading and raiding because for that you NEED a flexible chassis

Im sure it'll be fine many people use that chassis with no reported problems,( i assume your not thinking of raid Aus or a traverse of the Atlass mountains)

if you go back and fill in the blanks on my post on 2cvgb you ll see why the newer ones are not as good- or rather why the first ones were better

I KNOW why they are flappy. but clearly the manufacturers decided that having a chassis that looks like the much more involved citroen type was more important that structural integrity and speaks volumes about their engineering nouse.

Without reported problems? How many of them have cracked and fatigued but haven't been noticed? Loads I bet. Yeah, they're better than a collapsed citroen chassis but only as a jig for welding floors in.

Chapman once described it as follows: eating horse shit is better than eating dog shit, but why bother when there's fillet steak on the menu?

Haha have they been getting litigious about it? Their means of dealing with peoples concerns are unlikely to win many friends or gain respect and excellent reputation in a competitive market where it's my belief that a reputation can be built and destroyed easily.*
