Fair point, although I still stand by my original statement that it's worth knowing that the compression is ok before you do much else. After all, more rain often coincides with a drop in temperature, and if you've got one cylinder running 50psi less than the other one no amount of WD40 or new HT leads will make it start easily. For what a compression tester costs, it seems a good starting point to me.

I'm glad you understand, regardless of weather, which seems to be blamed for everything, do a compression and you'll know the condition of the engine.

Hmm,
thought it was old gits such as myself who were supposed to have poor memory and impaired powers of logic, but perhaps there may be exceptions to that rule? ;)

This was a post from artyclarty earlier this year and if you read her recent posts properly, the current starting problems are _always_ associated with wet weather.
That suggests that an HT leakage problem is likely to be the problem, especially since the car's reported to be starting and running perfectly when the weather is dry... :?

She now has a new handbrake (not that the other was broken, I just have small hands and couldnt put it on fully) a nice electronic ignition, a left hand side kingpin and window catch that my other half managed to break as we took her off the trailer!! She passed her mot with no problems whatsoever and is running like a totally different (and much better) car

Of course, the other possibility is that some of us haven't been members for all that long, and even if we had we'd probably have other things to do than remember every post from one particular member. ;)

Ken are you always so keen to explain that everybody are wrong and you are always correct? Could it ever be that you are mistaken and not always want the last word.
Think about it Ken, I do respect you knowlegde but not the way you go about it. You are not the only one who knows OK. Maybe get off your high horse and ''give'' room for others. Hopefully we can all meet one day and have a drink together in good spirit.

Cheers

Oh well, problem solved fingers crossed. Compression fine, HT leads fine, gave the spark plugs and carb a clean (which was incidentally filthy inside). The only slight problem really was the choke was sticking slightly so we played around with that. She is running fine now and doesnt have any dead spots either now which is a plus! If she didn't start first time it is foot down full on the accelerator and she leaps into life no problem.

Thought you all might like to see this pic of all the cars when we were at the unit today. Ours are the d*lly on the end and the blue with stars :)
