Also doesn't someone use old PC fans, as they are the right size and 12V...?

Jep Louise and it works just fine. Here is a thread I put in the French Dyane forum last winter.

http://dyaneclub.free.fr/cadre_historique.htm

The beauty of it is, that it keeps the flow of air constant, even then you, stand still, go slow or at high speed and the fan I have used isn't the biggest one.
A way to produce more heat is, to open up the heat exchanger and weld some fins on the exhaust pipe and close the exchanger again. that way you will get at bigger surface to conduct heat from in theory. When I get my Mictronic up and running again, I will try it to see if it works in real life.

Well the link doesn't work, so here is that I wrote:

"In Denmark, where I live, it is cold in the winter time.
Those of you living in northern France, knows the problem.
I the past, many has used a cabin blower from a GS.
GS is very rare in Denmark today, so I found an alternative.

I have adapted the CPU fan from a computer, and here is some pictures ....

The dim. of the fan is 92x92mm
Image

The housing i made of wood and painted
Image

Here is the control buttons. From left: The defroster handle, the speed button of the fan and last, the on/off switch
Image

The only thing you should be aware of, is the capacity of the fan. The Capacity must be more than 120 cubic meters pr hour if it should have any effect.
You can get them up till 250 cubic meters pr hour in size 92x92x35mm, 12 volt!!"

The President of the French Dyane Club asked this question
"Hello,
Can you show us a global pict of your engine place please and more details about your housing. I'm looking for similar solutions but there's not a big place in dyane for a housing like your's. The gear lever may be blocked by this system.
I intend at the moment to place a fan in every tube of heating but it is necessary to me to search how fix them correctly.
escuse me for my english.
Bye"

I replied.....

" Yes I can. The space between the gear lever and the speeder cabel, is not big. The hole wood frame is 12x19x5cm (WxHxD) in size
The fan size is 92x92x25mm. If you use a 92x92x35mm fan, you may have to cut a little bit (approx. 0,5mm) of the defroster regulator "lid" to make room for the fan. The wood frame, I have made of 22mm plywood. I used the plastic intake, as a template and then I cut 3 pieces of 22mm plywood and glued and screwed them together.

PS: Don´t be sorry for your English ;O)
Mine is not that good either and my French is worse!! ;O)"

As you all can see, my Dyane has a extra air intake.
That is because the body shell originally comes from Sweden where Dyanes was equipped with petrol heater, located where the spare wheel normally is. All connections to the normal heating system was disconnected and only petrol was used for heating. In the firewall there was cut out two holes aswell, to get as much heat in the cabin as possible to. In a Dyane opposite a 2cv, you only has one inlet to the cabin, which means that less air can pass through.
I've closed these two holes with a metal plate, which I have welded on, but consider opening one up again and then connect it separately via one of the heat exchanger so that air blows directly into the cabin.

shans,
ace advice, wish you'd dropped this on us back in November before the UK went into Arctic mode.

There's still time to get the old Dyane kitted up for the remainder of the Winter, mind you...

Thank you for posting that shans it is very interesting.

Do you know what I have been wondering though? When I bought my 2cv the seller said that he had never known a 2cv to be so warm from the heater. After I bought it I agreed. Within two miles it was very hot inside, not warm - Hot. When I rebuilt it I did so much to make it quieter, with sound deadening on the bulkhead and so on, yet now it gets only warm, not hot.

Do you think...?

I made this on our AMI8... Heat fan is from old GS and I made a new housing for it. Switch is on the dashboard . It helps down to 0 degrees Celsius , at lover temps only for demist of front windsheald.
Up to 80 km/h is ok but when we drive faster engine is cooler and there is not so much heat . But fan is helping anyway.

That setup of Keza's is almost identical to the fan that Citroen fitted as standard on proper Amis...
