as far as o lmpw (probably wrong ) when the engine "breaths" the flap inside lets the air out or in, presumably out, so it spits oil as it blows out waiting my dressing down for being being wrong

Nah cheers James that'll suit me. Just had a little look. There's a very wet looking oil feed pipe on the right hand side, at the front of the engine - i guess this is what was filling the heat exchanger up.
So is it possible its just not tight enough or something?
