 Re: camping in a 2cv
I hate tents, It's meant to be a holiday, not the fahkin' Krypton factor. If you booked a Cruise then turned up at the port being told you had to build your own ship it'd spoil your holiday, I fail to see how camping's any different. There's obviously advantages/disadvantages to kipping in your car, but plenty of folk do it with no problems. The key is keeping things tidy and stored nicely, as you'll be in there for some time and eventually opening your car to find it full of skiddy pants and minging socks/used jonnies isn't going to be fun. I'd construct a ply floor about 8" above the floor long enough to sleep on and easy enough to remove when you get home. Foam can be had from eBay and other bed places for not too much. I'd set the passenger side of the car up for sleeping in and the space behind the seat the drivers side for storage and cooking, you'd ideally construct something to keep you clothes/ablution kit/stuffed pink pigs in with a single gas stove on top. So you can swing the doors open, watch the sun come up and cook a bacon roll all in relative comfort.
Captain Krimsons car is set up for sleeping in as you're wanting to, have a look at that. It's on here somewhere but alas, I can't be bothered to find it.

You ever tried to put one of those tents away? hungover? In the rain? Bollocks to that mate. Mine's still very much a tent in my garage and has been since Spa. In October. And if you're seriously suggesting the answer to James' original question is 'buy a clattery VW and piss off all the people in the queues of traffic for miles behind you' then I think You've made some sort of error.
