I guess you haven't considered the implications of a front end collision with the ignition left on and a leaky fuel pump under the the bonnet pumping fuel out over a hot exhaust.

Nope, have to admit its not the first thing that crosses my mind when I go driving in the 2CV, I tend to be thinking about nuclear fall out and if the hood is good protection or not.

Good luck :) The piece of copper pipe you mention on the chassis rail is actually normally made of steel, and prone to rusting. It's often a good idea to remove it and replace with a cheap inline fuel filter. Placed there rather than just before the carb, the filter will protect the non-return flapper valves in your new pump as well.

Good point.

In terms of fires - It's the electrics rather than the fuel I would worry about!

Make sure your heater tubes from the heat exchanger are in good condition and well attached to the bulkhead and that all the electrics are well insulated an not catching on any bare metal. My friend set fire to his by wiring 50x halogen lights into the fog light feed and James Wallace on here managed to melt his loom... can't remember how.

For safety, I have quick release battery clips accessable from the wing valence panel and a fire extinguisher under the passenger seat :)

That is wery good idea... I still have burns on my hands when I was trying to detach battery cables when my old 1972 2cv started to burn on the road few years ago.

And I agree... not a fuel, electricity is a problem on 2cv - s . 30 - 40 - 50 years old wires calling for a fire...

On my Bedford CF motorhome (1977) I made a complete new electric wires from front to the end, from bottom to top.

Main culprit is the metal loom clip under the air filter housing and the fact that the headlamps aren't fused

right what was the OP again

They only catch fire when they are not looked after. None of mine have ever shown any inclination to spontaneously combust. [I'll check the fire extinguishers in the morning]

Except in Giel, when yours spontaneously combusted.
