If its an original engine it won't have a pressure switch.

Rebel's van is basically a modern disk-braker in all bar shell.

My money's on a simple electrical short somewhere, probably the light bar if the light works fine when the car's first switched on, probably at the sender if not.

Ah ;)

Rebel, does the oil light go out when you fire her up from cold? Or, is less-frenzied acceleration needed to put it out when the engine is cold compared to when warm?

If so, this would suggest that the wiring is ok but either your pressure switch is faulty (too sensitive, as mentioned above) or else... gulp...the nasty thing; worn engine :(

(It would be one 'ell of an wiring fault that consistently turned off the light every time you accelerated. Not impossible, but a faulty switch is, I think more likely. Or the other unwanted cause...)

Right, I've been at work all day so I had to drive home, it is a disk-breaker with a 602 btw. It was nice and dark when I got home, but with the aid of the torch I had a rumage round with wires, tracing which wire goes where, as if by magic the light is now off and stays off! Although I did panic on the way home as I had a second red light start glowing- breaks, I pulled up asap (praying I had fluid still) and found that the float thing had simply got stuck causing the light to come on! Oh what fun! I'm going to start re-wiring stuff under the bonnet as all my recent problems have been there.

Post Re: Oil light- various electrics
Right the other week you may have read my other thread that I now can't find, regarding my duff electrics. Got the thing going thinking the battery had just died a miserable death but now, with a brand new battery it's getting slower starting. I've tried doing a test by taking the voltage reg off and listening out for a rise in engine speed, but it's just all over the place, does this mean it's on it's way out? Can't leave it too long as the battery is pretty low already

is the battery not charging? is there some way (there must be some way) you can put a volt meter (or a voltomotor as my mate called it the other day  ) on the output of the alternator, that will tell you if its working or not?
other thing, if that is working, then maybe the voltage reg needs adjusting, maybe its set really low, so its charging at like 8v or something??

hope that was some use!

It's not getting charge I've checked, the regulator is riveted shut so I can't get into it, the only other thing I can think of is the brushes in the alternator
