If there is enough fluid why do you need a light to tell you what you already know. This light is probably the most pointless thing ever fitted to a 2CV. If anyone on here has had the light come on for low fluid then you should be ashamed for not having lifted the bonnet on a more regular basis.

the above typed with care and attention after a few libations

i lift my bonnet enough to be able to check it, and i geuss i never use the switch, but it would be nice, to have a fully funcitioning dash, i need to take the dash out, to re paint the de misters as tehre rusty, and also to wire in the switch for my cigerete lighter adapter thingy

I'll quite happily admit to having had the light come on! It comes on way before the fluid gets to the minimum level, so I see no shame in a light coming on while, as you've said, I *know* there's a safe amount of fluid in the reservoir.

I've never had it happen, but I reckon it would be quite easy to pump a reservoir-full of LHM out onto the road through a corroded brake pipe over a 250 mile journey, without necessarily noticing, surely that's what the light's for?

As for the test button, it has always struck me as a bit of a waste of money on a car that was definitely built on a budget. But seeing as it's there, what's wrong with James wanting to make it work?! :?

Someone cut my mates brake pipe (thinking it was a fuel line about 10 cars had the tanks emptied on that street that night)... how many of us really check under the bonnet everytime we jump in the car?
