Post Re: changing the loom over
It is doable if you take your time. The rear loom splits from the front section onthe bulkhead by the fuse boxes, so you should be able to disconnect there and not have to worry about the rear loom. Same as the head lamp bar, if its not burnt out in the headlamp bar you should be able to disconnect there and not worry about threading through.

Just to clarify I burnt out some wires at the rear of the starter and there had to replace the "main section" of loom from battery to starter including dash connections, ignition, brake switch, brake fluid warning, choke etc. I'm assuming that's what your having to do too?

James,
10 amp or less, maybe even one of these...

Best to take things one step at a time, so replacement loom in and working properly before any modifications are contemplated. ;)

As Louise has advised, clear labelling of as many wires as possible plus coloured sketches and/or photographs are vital to avoid problems.

when trying everything out (apart from starter) put a 30amp fuse between positive termal and battery clamp incase i messed something up?
is it fairly easy, if i plug things in as i un plug them?

James ....buy a tin of Electrical Switchcleaner before you start [available fron Halfrauds, etc] ....look for the "Iso propanlene" [sp?] stuff, its the best .....clean all the terminals on your new loom [it shifts cr@p like nuffin you've ever used before] .....and before you disconnect anything on the old loom clean it :!: ....that way you'll know what colours fit into their other end connector on your new loom.
There's not many things more frustrating than trying to work out whether that dirty connector is brown/red,yellow/cream,blue/black or just plain filthy.
And domt just rip the whole lot out at once .....leave the short bits [like the headlight bar section ] until you've got the main loom in

T. ;)

Well im not sure how many connections at the front there are, but if theres only a few i was thinkinf start at front work backwards, half of me wants to take phois and be artistic with crayons, half of me wants to do a 'as i take them off put new onea on straight away'

Because if there colour coded, im not sure if itd be easier to do a swap as you go rathe than pull the old loom off then put new one on

hmm

No. You'll get tangled up and there's nothing to say you won't have extra bits to confuse matters. Don't forget you've got to get a lot of wires through some tight holes, what's your plan when you get to the dash? you won't be able to have both looms through the bulkhead.

Label, draw, make a key, write where which things went through which hole, take pics. Go and have a cup of tea and a sandwich, match up the wires and colours, copy labels over to new loom (I did this on the floor as you need quite a space) refit.

Easy.

Even more so because I didn't label anything whatever on the loom when I took it off the car  . I thought it was going for scrap; if I'd known it was going to be used I'd have labelled the wires as they came off. Sorry.
