There's a few threads on this james... and some pics of both our mehari and my 2cv towing various boats... you'll be fine, the suspension makes them awesome tow cars.

Sorry Sam but never in a million years could a 2CV ever be 'an awesome towcar'. C'mon now.

Sorry I should probably say that I use the word "aweseom" with alarming regularilt. Probably something of a hyperbole.

In my defense, I didn't say "the best tow car in the world." I just meant that with a 400kg boat on the back, the suspension doesnt squish down making the car look ridiculous. The ride comfort remains the same and towing a camping trailer, the mehari still did 50-60mpg at 60mph. That's pretty awesome 8-)

It depends on the context. Comparable to similar cars it's a superb towcar. It doesn't struggle to sit at the same speeds it does when unladen and it stays superbly stable when towing reasonable wieghts. I once towed a trailer with five engines, three gearboxes, two mopeds and the car fully laden too. The only problem I had wasn't the stability or handling of the car, but that the car had duck all compression and wasn't as powerful as normal. Of course, other cars are better, my favourite being a td5 disco, which, when towing my mates 2.0 hotrod, it was only when he rung me asking me to ease up as hebcoulsnt keep up did I notice I was doing 110mph. It was very impressive.

Mmm. Surely that's purely down to the noseweight? Put 50kg noseweight on, and it'll be WAAAAY down towards the stops.
