 Re: AAAARRGGHH! Fitting fuel pump.
Cheers, Chris.
Yep, that about sum's it up!
I guess a refund should be my first port of call. Bought it brand new, but it was a good year ago just after I'd bought the car - I'm only just getting around to get 'er back on t'road.
Thanks for that.

 Re: AAAARRGGHH! Fitting fuel pump.
Ok, solution: bent the pump's outlet pipe very slightly so's the fuel hose is now around 1cm from from the exhaust cross pipe, wrapped a layer of insulating wrap around the exhaust pipe at that point, and also added a further rubber sleeve to the fuel pipe.

 Re: AAAARRGGHH! Fitting fuel pump.
what about fitting an in line fuel filter between the pump and carb. ive fitted 1 there before now on the acad and it moves the pipe away from the exhust quite a bit. also you could fit an extra piece of pipe or sleave over the fuel pipe. just a thought

 Re: AAAARRGGHH! Fitting fuel pump.
Nice thought - but around 10 hours too late . Thanks for the idea - a filter is always a good idea too. As it happens, tho', I'm reasonably happy with what I've done. I guess angle hose fittings are available too, so's the hose can be directed away from the exhaust, but hey...

 Re: AAAARRGGHH! Fitting fuel pump.
are you talking about the outlet is close or after the pipe is away from oulet if that makes sense?
cos if your on about the pipe after the outlook i just got a cable tie and re routed the pipe so its away from the exhaust

 Re: AAAARRGGHH! Fitting fuel pump.
Hi James.
It's as Chris says - and shows in his photo - above. The new pump had a fatter body so the outlet nozzle was around 10mm closer to the exhaust crossover pipe; the hose to the carb was therefore virtually touching the exhaust.
Yes, I could have contrived some way of having the pipe 'pulled' away from the exhaust, but I wanted a solution that couldn't 'come undone'... Also, I need to think of when the car is ultimately sold on - someone less aware might refit the pipe not realising the importance of the strange wire/clip/tie that was doing such an important job.
I asked the seller if they'd take the pump back since it was their error. Not unsurprisingly, they declined due to it having been nearly a year since I'd bought the part (although only just getting around to fitting it...).
So, on with a neat fitting socket, and b-e-n-d...
(On that 'taking things back' malarkey, I'm about to get in touch with the supplier I bought a complete exhaust from a goodly number of months ago. Again, only just getting around to fitting it - and, wheyhey, the back pipe section has a crank in it to make it exit towards the offside corner of the car, whereas my 2CV needs a straight section. Again, not my 'error', but I wonder what they'll say...?!)

I'm not sure i want to post this, for fear of sounding like a right geek, but I think the straight outlet pipe and the cranked one is the difference between UK market and europe, or something.

 Re: AAAARRGGHH! Fitting fuel pump.
Hi Russell.
No idea if you're right or not (and therefore whether you're a geek...) but the crank is certainly intentional - ie. it wasn't 'bent in the post'! Other than that, the pipe seems identical. Unfortunately, the crank means it misses the rearmost hanging strap, so it ain't any good. The rest of the supplied system is fine, and is now fitted.
Phone call tomoz...
