Sounds like it would be simpler to tune a standard engine instead. :)

I could just get stoned before tuning a standard engine, thereby increasing the size of the challenge again. Or something. :D

My understanding is that you can modify VW1500 barrel top and bottom (and your cylinder head), you'll also need to be very brutal (machining) on the barrel fins underside - leaving a hotspot problem, I 'believe' also that the pistons are unsuitable & inefficient being 'flat top'.

I have pictures somewhere - I'll try to find........

A long time ago I did hear that some kit car guys in the 'south west (UK)' had cast new barrels like the Visa ones with cast iron dry liner.

There exist forged pistons 'available' in 78mm for use with an overbored Visa 2 boxer motor, then it's necessary to modify 2cv block to take Visa barrels, can work very nicely!

I'm toying with the idea of trying to mate a pair of VW 1500 pistons and barrels with a 2CV engine. Does anyone know if this will work, or is it up to me to pioneer this (and no doubt fail expensively :) )? The 1500 engine has a stroke of 69mm, as against the 2CV's 70mm, but I'm not sure about the diameters of the barrels. Can't find much on Google either. Any thoughts?
Incidentally, I don't feel the need for more power particularly, but since when was a project like this about "need"? :D

EDIT: Hmmmm, maybe I should have put this in "Technical".

What's happened with the "850cc" barrel/piston sets, developed by some Dutch company? Still available? If so, any good?

spent most of last night trawling the aircooled net to try to find the right sized pistons with a 20mm gudgeon pin ( 4pot VW use 22mm)

the only thing that came close was a Porsche 365(or something) custom made pistons

now "custom" and "porsche" kind of put it out the ball park

ill just stick to a well set up standard engine thank you
