 White wall tyres
my wheels need rust treating and painting again this year, im thinking about doing this - http://farm1.static.flickr.com/59/205668943_f87809bd61.jpg but with red rims and lower the ride height a little bit so the front wheel is square in the wing and the rear wing goes about halfway down to the wheel (thats the best i can explain it) anyway, im guessing white walls cost a fair bit? i cant find them anywhere though....... any ideas?

 Re: White wall tyres
I'm having white bands done to mine to finish it off, they are the thinner stripe option, and no inserts either they're crap apparently. You need this guy. http://www.mrwhitewalls.com/

 Re: White wall tyres
neil, i have looked at that. but some people say it turns brown after a while? i guess i can just re-apply as it needs it. also, old nail. if they paint tyres for 15 quid a corner, i think i might just pay £14.99 for a pot of paint and do it myself. i should be back home in 2 or so weeks. ill order some and see how it goes. also, i just watched a pretty scary video of a man grinding the black of some tyres on youtube. Not for me i dont think

Not for me i dont think I've heard about it turning brown. I think that was when it's used on new rubber?

 Re: White wall tyres
i used genuine x-ply whitewalls on my project Golf, they definately werent cheap, but i had little option to choose from when i bought them. It will depend on your budget and location too, i tried North Hants Tyres in Aldershot, Hampshire. but there are lots of other places too, but i have heard about MrWhitewalls too, yet annoyingly a while after i got my real tyres, but everything i have heard has been good so far. There must be some 15" options out there. Coker Tire in the US could be worth a look?

 Re: White wall tyres
Hey Lads, Coker tyres are great, but I'm not sure about cost and freight etc. I have a lot of American muscle car experience so I am used to tyre painting, letters numbers and all that jazz on the side of the tyre.....Fact is all white paints turn brown on the tyre over time ...new or old rubber makes no difference, seriously, after about a year you can't even see that they have been painted at all.
After much experiment I have determined that:
1. Full real whitewalls are a pain to look after and too expensive 2. Whitewall paints don't last worth a damn and don't look right 3. The best white tyre paint for detailing is Hammerite smooth white (lasts longest) 4. I now use wide white stripe tyres over whitewalls,as you can sand the white stripe clean easily, with 280 paper, takes seconds and causes no damage.
Hope it helps, Shane

Hope it helps, Shane thanks shane, alot of helpful info there. i might just go for white smooth hammerite then! my tyres will need changing soon. firestones are CRAP. the only thing is, since my tyre pressure is pretty low, dont you get wrinkles in the paint ?

 Re: White wall tyres
I must clarify, I mean tyre detailing paint - not whitewall paint, this is for painting letters, numbers etc. on your tyres as per '60s muscle cars.....In my opinion there is no such thing as a good whitewall paint....sorry... They all turn brown as well, but some slower than others.
