Post Re: Rear Brakes,
From this page, which describes the functioning of Citroen's elegant hydropneumatic suspension & braking system in depth...
< http://www.citroenet.org.uk/miscellaneo ... ics-1.html >

"Rear brakes are powered from the rear suspension spheres. Because the pressure there is proportional to the load, so is the braking power. Furthermore, under heavy braking, hydraulic fluid is removed from the rear suspension causing the tail to drop providing inbuilt anti-dive."

Also worth noting that Citroen increased the available rear braking effort on certain A series models ( Ami 8 Estate & Acadiane had 17.5mm instead of the 16mm used in other LHM cars) by fitting larger bore wheel cylinders, even adding a basic pressure limiting system on Acadianes and Mehari 4x4.

Ami Super used 19mm bore rear cylinders to maintain the correct front/rear bias of its brakes, as it used larger diameter discs on the front.

If the rear is not working at all but the front has full effect, the rear of the car would try to swing around to the front. By the rear braking just a fraction, the car is braking in a straight line even in corners. A models, GS and CX etc. have little braking power available on the rear as almost all braking is done from the front brakes. The rear is just ''steering'' the car.

Post Re: Rear Brakes,
 Theres loads out there on "Brake Bias" cant be arsed gatehering it all together-just google it kids. Lets just say that having the brakes at the back working to full efficiency, as the rather good eingineers at Citroen( well the development ones) wished, is what ill go with personally.

Even the some in uk race club go on about 2cvs being "overbraked" suspect thats because the rears are siezed/poorly set up and the fronts are working too much and locking (ive had drivers moan that the pedal was too hard and the brakes were too fierce :? )

Post Re: Rear Brakes,
rightyo ive learnt a lot from reading this thread
i think what ill do is borrow the work truck and work on the car in the evenings...

i think taking the drum off for a looksie wont do any harm,
do i need to renew the 44mm nuts when i remove them?
i cant picture what you mean by the pivot arm, when the brake pedal is applied is that (im assuming) part of the process
im sure once the drum is off ill work it out!!!!!!!!!

if you swap the nuts over from side to side it gives you a fresh piece of metal to stake
