Post engine movement
Hi

I had the engine out just after Xmas for a clutch change. All's good but I've noticed a bit of engine movement....I happened to have my hand on the choke lever and had to brake hard at the same time. I could feel the choke lever moving out slightly (1mm maybe 2mm)

I know that a certain amount of engine movement is in the nature of a running engine but thought I'd ask anyway, especially as I've had the engine out and didn't torche the front or box rear mounts

I have no trouble selecting gears, not had an accident and the chassis is perfectly solid....any thoughts, or am i worrying about nothing?

cheers all
Will

Take the bungs out the bulkhead and make sure the gearbox mounts are done up properly, if they are, and the rubber mount is in good order then it's probably fine. You'll probably notice the gearlever does it too. New engine mounts are about £7 each, and there's only three of them, so if you're worried you might aswell do them.

Certainly worth checking, but almost certainly perfectly ok too. :)

The engine will rock a fair amount with quick (all relative, of course...) throttle changes. If you braked suddenly, then you would have lifted off the throttle quickly too, and perhaps even dipped the clutch? So the engine speed would have changed quickly - ergo, it rocks, man.

Cheers Russ and DA!!

I'll stick a spanner on the gearbox mounts, might get some new mounts but I think it's probably fine.

cheers again

I wouldn't bother with a spanner, it will be a bastard to get onto the bolts. Use a 17mm socket through the two holes in the bulkhead that Citroen provided for this very job.

You will need the hands of a laaady to fit the gearbox mount on an Ami. Oh and lots of patiences.

I fitted the mount to the gearbox out of the car, then fitted the gearbox and its mount to the steering rack.
