Lenny,
finally got time to check the wiring connections on both rev counters.

Unfortunately, they've both got what Sean reckons to be the later colours, which are black, orange and pink.
The black wire is 'to earth', orange wire is '12 volts supply from ignition switch' and pink is 'signal from -ve side of the coil'.

Despite what the naysayers advise, I find a tachometer to be very useful, but that's probably connected with having to tow the chassis trailer around so frequently.
That means there's often a need to hold a lower gear for long stretches on the uphill bits...

Thanks for that Ken.

I'll have another look at it tomorrow. I suspect I'd looked at the wire colours and assumed they were faded so it's possible that black, orange and pink rather than black, brown and red are actually what I've got.

I'll have a look in the morning, I've had a bit too much vin rouge tonight.

I think it was your good self that suggested a Harley tacho may be a good idea for our Swiss excursions and I quite agree.

(Well, the Swiss excursions and the fact that my good lady thinks that 60-odd in third is the done thing. ;) )
