Post Rerouting Oil Cooler
When the factory oil cooler lines are blanked out, like pictured below, do any internal modifications need to take place?

Looking at the oil path diagram it will route it through the "bypass valve" does this need to be removed or left as is?

Cheers

No you don't need to do anything, the 2cv oil flow is constructed the way that when the oilcooler is blocked (your situation) the oil passes by.

(My opinoin no credit)

I took the safe option...

1. Fitted a pipe in place of the oil cooler .
Can be oil hose or as per "PP" with 10mm copper heating pipe.

2. Fitted a remote cooler and oil filter on the bulk head with a sandwich plate mounted where the standard filter is fitted on the block.

I guess i should mention i will be using a Visa engine.

Here is an Oil diagram of the 2cv:

Even with the diagrams i am still confused :? I can see that on the Visa 100% of oil runs through the cooler, if this was blocked then it would run through the bypass valve. may be an idea to remove the bypass if this is done??..

On the 2cv only half/some of the oil passes through the cooler, if it was blocked off i can't see how oil will be delivered to all the bearing journals.

Also Pete, with the sandwich plate (i run one for my 2cv gauges and extra large oil filter) remote cooler does oil pass through the cooler > filter or filter > cooler? just a thought.

Cheers

thats why the above pictures illustrate the transfer port between the rear and the front big end journals...drawn red line.

if you take out pressure relief valve 5 all the oil for the front main will dump to sump

if you dont fit a balance pipe between the original oil cooler( or make alternative provision) the front main and the big end it feeds will be starved of oil with the 2cv set up

again the backroom boys at citroen were better clued up than me about this stuff and so i trust them on it

anyway dont 2cvs tend to run the oil cold? a bypass and a thermostat coupled with a larger oil cooler would seem a better idea to me 8-)
