Sorry, yes. I should have said "at least the same mileage left in it". :)

Those clutch adjusting nuts can get very rusty and hard to loosen. Give them a good dose of penetrating oil at intervals for a couple of days before trying to adjust them. Particularly since (I think) one of the nuts is rather thin and easy to chew up.

When I bought my Dyane it had only done 48,000 miles, but was already on it's (knackered) second clutch! The old coil spring clutches don't last as long as the later diaphragm ones, but even so. It's how they're driven, and that one must have been driven very badly for the first 20 years of its life!

If you discount the hooligan element and their racing starts at every set of traffic lights, it's neglecting adjustment of the cable and/or drivers riding the pedal which are the usual reason for a clutch wearing out early, in my experience. ;)

If anything, I find that it's diaphragm type clutches which suffer most from the clutch being ridden, as the effort required to keep the pedal fully depressed is considerably less with that design...

Post Re: strange reving
just to clear things up,,,,

cable was tight as,..

adjusted cable so its not to slack but got a tiny tiny tiny bit of tention when its home (well its a tad slack really) and the car is perfect, bighting point is nearish the floor, (like about 14 to floor)

my friend is an ex mechanic from toyota and a honda qualifified mechanic and so on

he tested the clucth before adjustment and after, and i could see the dramatic difference that it made!!

when driving the car its very strange as before my gear changes where smooth as silk and now cos the bighting point is different im not used to it yet!!! thanks for your help
