 Re: Salbris 2011
I'm at Oxford services M40 atm, I've stopped for a break as I'm totally knackered, hope to be home by 2am. I should be at WASPs, Jon.

 Re: Salbris 2011
Biggest meeting there ever has been and ever will be again. Somewhere around 7000 cars. People camped in gardens, on building sites, at the side of the road and pretty much all over the green in town. Toilets/showers/organisation all shit but if you went expecting anything else you were a twat. Not quite the atmosphere Czech had but a f ucking great meeting none the less. Heard that British kids were stealing from tents so if it was you and you're reading this you can fuc k right off the forum now. Aside from that it was a top week, a few Brits moaned but they're only happy when things are going bad eh? Will get all 596 photos up tomorrow night.
2cvcross and the I2F destruction derby at the kart track are my highlights, and I'm going to miss the free pomme frites and indoor smoking at the bar up the end of the high st!

 Re: Salbris 2011
It was indeed a very large meeting and never likely to be surpassed in numbers. 7,000 plus cars and 17,000 people. Getting in was to say the least an interesting experience, we had a 12 hour wait only to be told we couldn't get in until the next day [Wednesday]. Once in, the site very cramped but the atmosphere was great. I thought the bogs and showers stood up well considering the number of people and I managed a shower every day. The food was cheap and very good with little queuing [the French were always going to get the food right] Had 250 Euros nicked from the tent which was bad. A whole pile of tents near us were done. They had arrested a Romany gypsy by the time we left but the flic always arrested a gypsy for crimes like this, makes them feel better. The meeting was very French but it was always going to be, but all in all a really good place to be for 5 days. Great to put some faces to names from this forum and also to see so many people I know in one place. Also fantastic that six of you stayed at our place the week before even if it did dent the paraffin supplies. Poland in 2015 was a good choice too.
Highlight was buying a very smart 1965 AK350 weekend. Low point having 250 euros nicked.
Roll on Spain.

 Re: Salbris 2011
I am probably going to repeat much of the above, but I went with some fear it would be a let down. I was actually fantastic !
Its easy to moan about the bogs, showers and the massive time it took to get in, but it was never going to be any different with that huge volume of people and cars. In fact one of the most enjoyable bits for me was in the "holding field". I wandered around and met people I hadnt seen for years, chatted to the people around me and that was great.
As far as the toilets were concerned, they were cleaned regularly (if not rather dramatically), and my solution was to also wander into the town of Salbris and give some custom to the local bars and shops in exchange for the use of their facilities (although 7.50 euros for a beer in one place did make me go a little slower than I would normally). I have to admit that the town did seem very friendly and really took on the spirit of the event. Fantastic watching the cars drive through the town centre and even more fun doing it.
Also driving off site for a day and exploring villages was superb, its so easy to drive in France and just great doing so. The only hassle I had in the whole driving part was typically when I got back in England and some prat giving me hassle around the back of Hastings.
I am utterly shocked by the amount of theft on the site. Close to me there were two "moto cross" bikes taken from a trailer. On the last night the tents in our area had been gone over and sadly a friend camping with us had 350 euros taken from his bag that was next to him whilst he slept! I heard of several other tent thefts from around various places. I just hope that this was as a result of people coming in from outside, if this is from withing the 2CV community then that is beyond comprehension....I am really shocked to hear it was as bad as it seemes.
I am sure pictures will come on here and show the fantastic variety of cars there....everything !!
All I can say is great to meet some many people from here, from everywhere and despite the pathetic scumbag opportunist petty thieves, I reckon this was just fantastic......certainly got me going again on all ...err...2 cylinders !
AND I DIDN'T BREAK DOWN !!!....My first 2CV meeting .... in a 2CV !!
Exhausted, but really great.
Looking forward to some pics on here now. Will start to sort mine out this evening.

 Re: Salbris 2011
Absolute chaos. Me dad got all his money stolen, as did the other people he was with. Still an absolutely amazing week. Saw lots and did lots, but somehow didn't manage to see the museum or much of anything else going on on site during the day really. Home now, so on abit of a come down. I LOVES FRANCE. Must sleep, then have a look at the photos.

 Re: Salbris 2011
Yeah that's what I do, stick it in my pillowcase. I haven't got a bean to my name so I'd have enjoyed knowing some light fingered Brit tea leaf had been in my tent looking for wedge cos they'd have had to rummage about through a massive pile of stinking skids for a cash bonus of almost €2. wankers. Thankfully no twat stole off me so I had a blinding time, as did plenty of others, it was the one meeting you had to be at really, regardless of whether it was going to be crap or not, and on the whole I've had a tidy week away spying on crumpet, drinking in tabacs, tossing about with 2cvs and getting sunburnt. It was pretty much as I expected it would be. Safe as houses.

 Re: Salbris 2011
...and I'm back. 4 light Dyane for the highly destructive racing WIN! 2cv cross poon was rife. Bent. Sam Fieldhouse, Caitlin and Jorge turned up to watch on the Sunday, whilst Louis arrived Saturday night and camped with us. The 2cv cross (off the) Pace car. There now follows some photo's of the wreckage left afterwards... Bought a kilo of camembert, a baguette and a coffee, bought 40 fags off a right dodgy french drink driving enthusiast and had a slightly quieter night but still a good one. Another day of hitting the tabacs (starting at 10am near the 2cv cross and finishing god knows when in Salbris) we stopped at this right posh hotel, where they bent us over and reamed us for the last room in 20km, but it meant when we got up nursing hangovers (well, I was) and joined the queue to get into the WM right at the front, total queuing time for the smart folk: 45mins. WIN. Once we'd got in we went for a walk up the queue for an hour or two to see the carnage erupt, and get excited because it was everything we'd expected it to be. Massive. That's one queue... ...and that's another one. Yep, further than it was possible to see. Decked C3 on white rims looked sweet. Totty in the queue was also abundant. There's another 200 pictures to come once facebook sorts its act out and uploads them a bit quicker. Hope you like. If you have some, get them up please!
