The "little doors" or foot vent flaps came from an early model Toyota Landcruiser 4WD. They are supurb for a Raid 2CV, or any 2CV that lives in a hot climate. they are operated by the feet as there is a bit of metal at right angles to the flap (on the inside) and you push it to open or hook your toe behind it to close. The flaps have off-centre springs to hold the flaps open or closed. They deliver air to the footwell, which can get quite hot. Because they are mounted behind the mudguard and not directly in the airstream, they work well at any speed. The airflow dosesn't become a cyclone at high speed, always just a gentle breeze.
I also had the metal surrounding the vent cut from the Toyota, as this had the other part of the hinge, the rebate for the vent to sit in and the tube for the spring end to attach to. This was taken back to bare metal, a triangular hole was cut into the A-pillar, the area surrounding the hole was also taken to bare metal and two Loctite products were used to glue the the metal together. A primer on one surface and an active ingredient on the other. Small holes had been drilled through both the vent metal and car metal prior to gluing, and pop rivets were applied though the holes to hold the metal together whilst the glue cured. Next day, the rivets were ground flush and bog applied to the metal join to hide it. I didn't consider welding, as the Lancruiser metal was nearly twice the thickness of the 2CV metal, and that would have resulted in both distortion and holes in the lighter 2CV body. Very happy with the result.
It is funny how many people look at the Far Canard sign, not knowing what it means until they say it out loud. Then some of the ladies blush. Daffy Duck is certainly a "chick magnet" (although most 2CVs are). Whenever I camped as I travelled by myself, people would come up and talk about the car. For women, it is cute and not aggressive as the SUVs that seem to populate Australia. The SUVs also seem to attract more the macho Rugby League type of men, the latter day Neanderthalers, whereas the 2CVs attract the mild mannered adventures, the eccentrics, the free thinkers, the romantics and the gentlemen who drink Guinness. In short, the interesting people in this world.
