Just bought this little beauty. Chassis collapsed and put aside to rust away by previous owner.
Not sure what to do yet, have a few options.
Chassis change only and fix some of the rust.
Partly restore it to average
Give it the full monty incl paint
Prepare it for Raid Africa.
First thing to do is to get a galvanized chassis to rolling stage. Then decision time for the body.

Not too bad. If I decide to restore it completely, new pedal floor, 2 new floors, 2 sills, 2 inner rear mudguards, boot floor and number plate panels will be replaced. All 4 doors are ok, same for bonnet but boot lid is damaged. Windscreen panel/ bonnet hinge needs very little work.
Last 4 new wings + all the lose bits. Big job, maybe 600 hours incl all the mechanics.

Hi Peter

Looks like a great project. You and your Mig welder......you will be like a "Pig in Sh**t" (envy!)

Could be good to document/post progress photos of rebuild to help others?
There are lots of car drivers who have yet to learn what is inside and underneath their cars...and many 2cv ( new?) owners are probably interested.

Love the workspace. ( more envy!)
What about photo #3. All that rusty corrugated iron..just like Australian farm sheds...and is that a corrugated Asbestos-cement sheet roof???..fantastic bargaining point for cheaper rental/purchase. lol.

Yep, this post will follow the 2cv to end result, whatever that might be. More photos soon. Had the local sandblasting guy around yesterday to look at the 2cv and to give us a quote. € 250 for a whole day 9am to 5 pm. He thinks that the 2cv is a half day job, so he suggested adding rims, all swingarms, steering rack, rear axle, + a spare chassis I will use one day. Even gear box and engine is possible and whatever else I what to throw in (maybe my wife, she is a bit rough around the egdes) Image

My Missus is like my 2cvs gearbox, full of bent teeth, never been taken out and whines a lot. :lol:


Remember that as soon as it's been sandblasted you should put some paint on it, at work we have to paint everything we blast within 2 hours to conform to the garuantee on our paintwork. (we often don't though, and to be honest, a fair while longer won't hurt as long as it's a dry enviroment) although porous, a quick coat of red oxide primer will go a long way, especially if these parts are to be stored somewhere damp.

The blaster said the same thing but couldn't advice me on what primer to use. He suggested spray-can primers, its easier to apply than using a brush. Maybe I should speak with the painter and ask what paint he is using. What do you think? can all primers be used underneath all types of paint. I believe that two-pack is illegal and not used anymore.

A couple of litrres of this should do, if you're going to do the swing arms and other parts black, it wouldn't hurt to prime and paint them now. I'd go for a couple of coats of that and then a decent topcoat or two.
