Hi,

I'll present you my 2CV AZUL '59 from the Belgian Post.
The Belgian Post did start to order 2CV AZUL in 1958. The last order for 2 2cv AZU was made in 1978.
We don't know how many 2CV AZUL were exactly ordered by the Belgian Post but we know that Citroën had to make a lot of changes to the car to be usable for the post. There is a well known picture of the first order with the model from 1958. We also have seen some pictures of 2CV AZUL from the beginning of 1959. Mine was registered on the 31/12/1959. This is then the last registred this year.
The model is then the one from Decembre 1959 already with the wings in 135x380 (no more 135x400).

The car is very interresting with a lot of details specific for the Post. The base is a 2CV AZUL (week-end) adapted by Citroën Forest for the Belgian Post.

I was able to compare my car with another from the Belgian Post from 1961 and the specific details were also present on the other car. We just don't know, for some of the details if the specificity was made originally or later on by the post.

Nearly all the specific parts are present. The aluminium rear bumpers were missing but I have already found them.

The car was originally used by the Belgian Post. One day (date not known yet), the car was sold probably with other AZUL. The previous owner did find it in a farm in the beginning of the eighties. The car was provided with a 2CV6 engine from the seventies (AK2).
Because of the amount of car I still need to work on, I think that I'll just repair the breaks (full replacement) and replace the gearbox and the engine. I'll also remove everything that was not originaly on the car.
I hope to be able to do that in 2009.

Vincent.

Lovely van! There are a few ex-Belgian Post vans in Britain. Two of my friends have 1970s Belgian PO AZU 250s.

Here is Will's van, with a Belgian one, in Rochefort last summer.

On his car the driving wheel is on the right side. This was by design to gain time when getting the letters from the mailbox. His model is very interresting.

Where you present in Rochefort ? I was in charge of the organisation of the "2CV Made in Forest" meeting on Saturday.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that the wheel's on the right on Will's van.

Yes, I was in Rochefort (and in 1998). Good times! The Made in Belgium exhibitions were very interesting. Some other friends of mine were upset as they'd not quite got their Belgian AKL (or it might be AKB?) Weekend van ready in time to take it to the meeting!
