O-N, if you don't mind, can you give me the name of the Carnauba wax product you use, where you bought it from and the price, please? Cheers

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
The thing with Carnuba wax is it's expensive, and like any other product of this type it is blended with beeswax to a greater or lesser proportion. Some products say things like 'Contains' or 'with' natural Carnuba wax on the packaging, but don't happen to mention that there's only around 3% content in there, they do it just so they can say Carnuba in the add. For the best stuff, with the higher content then the prices look a bit steep, such as this one, but a tub like this would last several waxes, with each wax lasting several months. It's an old style solid wax, which means it's harder to apply than modern liquid waxes, but the results are there to see. http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/r222/-concours-look-carnauba-wax.aspxThere are lots of Carnuba products out there and if they are relatively pure they should perform the same, to buy a cheaper one than that shown here won't necessarily mean it'll be of poorer quality either, just keep your eye on the small print to find out how much Carnuba is in there if you can. If it doesn't give a breakdown, then generally speaking the contents are labelled starting with the main component and working to the smallest. I can't remember the make of the one I had, I say had because I reversed over it coming out of the garage and squashed it so I had to throw it away. It didn't cost a fortune though, around twelve quid I think. One of the things I found was that washing with hot soapy water melted the wax, and thus reduced the protection, so I just washed the wheels with hot water, and cold hosed the rest of the car so as not to melt the wax. A product that I note reckons it won't melt even with a hot wash is shown below. There's no Carnuba at all in this one by the look of it, but it might be worth a go. http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/collinite/476-super-double-coat-wax.aspxFinally for James, for winter I used to coat my entire car with a thick slosh of clear waxoyl. I put it everywhere except the glass, and I laid it on thick. As a protective coating it worked well, but the drawbacks were that it collects all the road grime and looks atrocious, it also gets on your clothes if you accidentally brush up against it, and it entices budding comedians to write 'clean me' in it like they do on the backs of vans. Oh and James... Youuuu.... Youuuu...

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
O-N, if you're still seriously considering selling your 2cv, may I suggest you wait till the end of July and take it to the World Meeting in Salbris. Prices do seem higher out there and I've got a feeling the RHD cars tend to sell, due to rarity/novelty. I'm sure you could hitch a ride back to Blighty from somebody on here.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
We will be in France at that time actually, but Brittany is a fair old trot from Salbris. I'm no longer a member of 2cvGb anyway, an' I doubt anyone could cope with me for several hundred miles on the way back without needing some form of counselling. I'll keep it in mind though, I could always fly back. Well today there should have been a post about attending yesterday's Raid Tan Hill, complete with lots of interesting piccie's of all who turned up, except due to a typical family bust-up It was me that wasn't there. Instead I took myself off to Bolton to sort out the mess, and noticed while hammering down the M61 that one headlamp was doing the old 'now you see - me now you don't' thing. I pulled into the nearest services to push on the connection that had worked itself loose, and with forward vision restored I got back in the car and shut the door. The wife then reached down and passed me the interior light lens that had fallen on her head when I had slammed the door, and asked me why the wipers were making such a funny noise? "No idea!" When she had previously said that this car is just like one of the family I'm beginning to see what she means - at times it's a 'kin' nuisance!

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
The only trouble with that Russ is if it didn't sell then the summer's over with.
There'll be selection boxes in Tesco's by August (as usual) and then everyone will be saving up for Christmas. There's also the real and present danger of me thrashing it with a tree branch Basil Fawlty style if I have another day like yesterday.
It's not the car's fault, it just needs half an hour to look over it now and again, preventive maintenance I believe it's called, but - well....it's been cold...and I had a sore knee... and then some aliens stole my toolbox.... and...

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Oh! And the 2cvGb thing in case anyone is reading.
This same thing happened last year, they withdrew the cash from the bank by direct debit but didn't connect it with me for some reason, so I paid twice because they claimed I hadn't paid. I realised I had paid after seeing a bank statement and so I claimed one payment back again.
The last mag' I received from them this year was the one with my car on the cover, so it looks like it's happened again, only this time I'm struck down with can't-be-arsed-ness to chase it up, so I'll cancel the DD for the future, they can keep the money from this year to pay for some efficiency lessons.
