 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
I agree that metallic colours don't work on two levels. Firstly met paint was always put on luxury cars not inexpensive ones like the 2cv, even today it costs more than solid colour. Secondly as James says it seems to react strangely with the curves. That last bit might sound like total cobblers but there's something in it somewhere.
I can't say what those colours are on the Buick model, but as with all colours there will be modern alternatives available that are very close. Carefully done, the dual colour treatment can give a car an added dimension, real instant 'classic' looks if that's what you are after.

If you click the link below and scroll down to "Bodywork", it does say the 1949/50 model year was painted in metallic grey. Quote:- "Available in metallic grey only"http://www.citroenet.org.uk/passenger-c ... /1949.htmlI guess it depends on what the word "Metallic" actually meant in the late 1940s.

Yes I've seen that early metallic grey colour. It's a bit like they used to put on kitchen stoves and the like. Metallic paints how I meant are those that usually have a clear lacquer over them to give them depth.

A red/black Charleston would look excellent in metallic colours.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
I once saw a metallic purple one, it looked f*cking disgusting! I'd like to think that maybe some metallic paint would suit them, but I really can't picture it. Metallics seem to bounce the light off a curved surface in a way that is different to solid colour, the finish then takes on a sort of misty appearance. Taken to it's extreme could you imagine a 2cv in that new candy flip paint? I suppose the choice finish all depends on who you are, what you want to achieve, and how adventurous you feel, but in that respect while I don't mind seeing what we might call the more adventurous or avant garde colour schemes, I prefer to stick to the classic ones on my own cars.

Metallics don't look right on the slab sided parts like the doors where metallic paint shows up every imperfection.
If you have a look at a certain 'show car' the quality of the paintwork doesn't look too bad but the flex of the doors & wings just makes it look horrible. Vert Armee FTW.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Charleston Colours ..... I've nothing against M&B Charlestons .....but this made me smile at a Classic Show last summer... [note the Ford Pop,and the car next to it .... ] The next but one car was this ..... The drivers/owners of all three cars were obviously friends,as they were sat around talking in a group. .....my 2CV was about five cars further up the row .....but a cheery comment from me of "Hello, somebody came accross a cheap job-lot of Citroen Charleston paint then?" ..... made me about as popular as a f*rt in a diving suit. In some photos I've seen on here - probably on the Cool Pics forum - the red/black Charlie has certainly looked metallic. Whether the photos were doctored to enhance the contrast or whether they genuinely were metallic versions, I have to agree - it looked 'rich' and quite yummy. Other than that, tho'... nah.
