 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
They used to reserve such ire for the owners of Rolls Royce's and such, any displays of conspicuous consumption, but now it's aimed at anything that has the appearance of being something someone cares about. From well tended flower beds to 2cv's they are all a target for the expression of that hate . It's very sad, yet those responsible for creating this mess will simply buy a villa in Tuscany and avoid the consequences.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
im of the generation that do this sort of dispicable thing, and i think its completly dis respectful, ive seen old people being ab used before, it makes me really angry, i was on a bus once with a load of kids from my skl, and they started heavily abusing the driver, so i put them in there place, jerks all of them! i quite often get abuse shouted, but mostly people going ahh look at that, or little kids smiling at me! its not bad round here, but i can imnagein what its like else where

Alkie wrote: and this was while you were in your van? holy shit mate thats bloody harsh, makes my small incident in L'pool look tame, hope you were ok after getting hit! You'd think in a way they would appreciate your car, in a perfect world, but I suppose its different, and people like that can't handle difference, its beyond their brain power to compute, so it turns to hate instead. Makes you dream about fitting a snow plough and going on a rampage I've lived in Peckham, Brixton and Hackney, never had any trouble, ran old cars, the most I had was an egg or two - its the provincial areas that are worrying. I've moved to a far civil place to escape but you still get a bit of abuse, but nothing to that extent (yet). I suppose missioning around at night, will boy racers lurking can cause some trouble. Experienced a bit leaving Bristol at 2am on a Friday night. No this was all in my first 2cv at least they didn't put me off stop me buying a second and a third! The van hasn't been without though, it got broken into and a few hundred quids worth of cb radio and iPod etc nicked

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Blimey chaps, makes where I live seem like heaven (it's not mind you). I can't say I've had much problem with chavs. I did have a nob in an Escort RS Turbo try and race me once. I continued to pootle along the 30mph zone with him dropping his clutch and racing up behind, then dropping back. Well, after putting up with this monkey for far too long, I decided to "fight back", so took a left turn down a residential street with rather large speed bumps. I hit the first speed bump at about 40-45mph, looked in my rear-view mirror and just caught the Escort hitting the aforementioned "traffic calming measure" and disintegrating. Skirts, bumper, fog-lights smashed. I just dropped back to 30mph and carried on my merry way

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Jeez... Some of them stories would put anyone off owning a 2cv. Although we have a garage, the 2cv is often parked on the street overnight, however, it's never been touched, and about a 10 minute walk from here is Pikey central. The only form of vandalism was my mum writing "Tosser" in the condensation while my dad attempted to start it ona freezing morning with the handle. I've no right to say this whatsoever, as I know shitall about life, but if you ask me, it's a given innit? You drive a weird cv2 D*lly clown car round a rough area it's gonna attract unwanted attention. It's only life. You get over it.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
I don't wanna sound like a noob James but all this happened in a nice area, I got my own flat 9 months ago and that resulted in moving closer to pikeys and chavs, not had a single problem since, it's just a select few who decide to vandalise, I rarely get a second glance nowadays

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Well folks I have been doing a little thinking. Having restored my Citroen 2cv over the last year or so, and having gained many useful skills along the way it's now time to move on. I discussed this at length with my other half on Wednesday evening, (was that really only last night!) and the decision was made to sell the 2cv in the spring of next year before moving on to pastures new. I'm a pretty restless person, so I now need a new challenge! I may still post here up until the spring as I'll still be running the car as my daily driver until then, which means continuing to carry out regular maintenance and so forth, and the usual resolving of any unexpected problems that may arise. My thanks to those that have followed my blog this far, and naturally I hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I've enjoyed cutting my knuckles and swearing at the neighbours while writing it.
