 Re: Sudo Kubel
I think Tony's flag idea is along those lines.

 Re: Sudo Kubel
2cv is for me a symbol of good times and free mind people... and peace... Puting a NAZI symbols on it is sick if you ask me and I dont want to have anything with that scene.
But as I said, this car is a brilliant DIY work . Dont spoil it.

 Re: Sudo Kubel
It's a Sudo Kubel so pseudo unit markings should be the perfect thing to do! People have been doing it for years in books, films, art and model making.... coming up with fictional units and colour schemes for equipement that sometimes never made it off the drawing board! eg http://www.luft46.com/luftart.html

 Re: Sudo Kubel
Hey guys, lets please not too hung up on the Nazi's and what they done. It is the Kubelwagen that i am interested in, not the politics and if it had been built by the Americans or the British and we had been driving it all over Europe then i dont think we would be having this conversation. Like i said in the start, it is purely the design and the engineering of the germany army vehicles which fasinate and amaze me. I really do like the idea of the shield with perhaps a 2cv engine inside or how about the chevron sign?? That would make a good 'spoof' unit which would no doubt get the 'rivet counters' at Beltring asking a few questions, lol. The exhaust note sounds quite realistic. I have run two completely seperate exhaust front to rear using stainless steel silencers and pipe where i could and it sounds very much like the Original Kubel engine, Oh and it looks the bollox too, lol. Need to get it done for War and Peace and it is booked to go to the world meeting so i really do have to get my finger out. I would like to have it on the road for London to Brighton but will have to see how it go's i guess. Cheers for all your comments though guys, i do appreciate them.

 Re: Sudo Kubel
Hmmm, regarding the design of the original 2CV engine... The engine was designed by Walter Becchia and Lucien Gerard,[2] with a nod to the classic "boxer" BMW motorcycle engine (it is reported that Becchia dismantled the engine of the BMW motorcycle of Flaminio Bertoni before designing the 2CV engine).Tony England wrote: Like i said in the start, it is purely the design and the engineering of the germany army vehicles which fasinate and amaze me.

 Re: Sudo Kubel
Just taken a look on Leboncoin and I'm quite surprised at how reasonable the prices are for an old VW.

 Re: Sudo Kubel
Hey 602, the Volkswagen 181 is the 'post war' version of the Kubelwagen and is completely different in so many ways. The 181 is readily availiable all accross europe and in the US fairly cheeply, where they manufacter a range of performance parts for them aimed at the off road racing fans. The ww2 Original Kubelwagen is the 'only' version im interested in and because it is so rare, it damands rediculous prices. One went up for sale on 'Milweb' a short time ago, a barn find which was rotten through and needed complete restoration. They were asking 24,000 euro for this car. Fully restored kubels go for £40,000 - £60,000. I think i'll stick with this project, its more like my price range .

Luke wrote: One of those unit shields with an outline of a 2CV engine or something would look quite good, I think. It is after all a replica of a German WWII military vehicle, so would look a bit strange without any markings at all. But that might look right without causing too much offence. The airfix models we give to kids have swastikas on the wings! Au contraire ,the swastika on the tail was erased by political correctness. The wings on ww2 german aircraft (and airfix kits) have the iron cross symbol ,not disimilar to that used by todays german airforce ,which is the same as that used in WW1 .
