genius - gonna nick that

saw a really nice bay van yesterday - spoiled by having lovered camper/day van crap windows let in but at a proper "crossing continents" style ride height that made the vans the legend they were.

it was sitting stewing in its own petrol fumes soon to be a victim of the dogmatic adherence to the OG cotton braided fuel lines which leads to self immolation and then everyone blaming the plastic in line fuel filter.
strange breed

@pete - not really otherway about narrow the chassis and keep the body wide so it looks like one of those plastic toys that you got in cornflake packets in the early 70s

@ neil - the only way to ape the VW hipsters is to chop a bit out the suspension arm movng the wheel closer to the c/l without huge modifications to the chassis or rack reducing the tyre to arm clearance - turning circle of the Amico Cadiz? :(

That's polished up nicely, and not much work to get a ticket on it :P Looking forward to seeing this in a field in the not too distant future. :)

Anyway back to the autopsy on the main tub.... I mean assessment.
BAD
Floors are toast although the passenger side less so (but I dont like the repairs Its got more plates than Royal dalton back there).
Sills also
Bottom 4 inches of the bulkhead
bottom of drivers side a panel
Drivers side Jacking point now on the floor under car in dustpan
Shagpile carpet in the bin
Bottoms of door pillars both sides
Passenger side A panel is toast.

HMMM?
Couple of small holes in the chassis where its had damp carpet on it but i am optimistic right now that a nicely stitched in patch there will cover it.

Top half of bulkhead looks good, so far but we will see.

GOOD
Rear seat box is in Great shape. all original and solid.

So Im going to Hoover up the bits off the Drive.

I am not even going to look in the boot at this point It will only scare me:lol:
Pics to follow when I get back in...

First off Russell was right, 4th gear only required my brain engagement to work.

Secondly this was something i was very happy to find

Its an important peice of the puzzle towards getting a new logbook... I e no vin, no car so thats off my mind now, It would kill me inside to do the work and not to be able to get a logbook for it.

So here is the damage with all the seats out
Image

so from front to back.
Drivers side scuttle front of sill and doorpillar

Image
Knackered
Passenger side more holes and less metal
Note temp door hinge repair
Image
Middle of footboard and front of Chassis (from inside car)
Not terminal but while Im there I might as well do it properly
Chassis is an unknown but looks very good from the underside so still hopeful
Image
Going back into the rear footwells
Drivers side
Image
and passengers side.
Image
one knackered, one messy so coming out.

Rear seatbox Salvagable but a little frilly where it joins the inner wings pretty damn good though.

If my experience of opening 2cv chassis up to see inside, that ones had it. By the time the rot gets to visible levels the internal structure is so far gone its easier to just use a new one.

Not the end of the world if that happens. I will just need to check and see if any good ones are in my stockpile.
As I said the other day though (and i dont know if this is the way it works with Citroens)
Chassis is solidish performing a service right now and can wait until the shell has some integrity back.

On this...

I would tend to use the Old Chassis to hold everything together while I stitch some strength back into the shell (Sills Floorboards and doorposts). Then Zap in a couple of cross supports to hold it square.. and then pull the shell to have a crack at the toeboard and other stuff.

I might be wrong though?

Thats 2cv Russel, Ami 6 of this age, are of good quality steel, I bet it isn´t rusted at all at the inside at, see who wins.
