Great... I thought Rommel wasn't big on chrome. It's looking fantastic anyway, I like the idea of building something unique it must be very satisfying.

Tony, A fantastic project - you're going to have a stunner when you've finished. And your handiwork looks really good quality Do you intend to have it road lergal when you've finished? If so, it may be worth taking a look at this https://online.businesslink.gov.uk/Tran ... n_1010.pdf Apologies if I'm teaching 'granny to suck eggs' here but i'm having a ballache of a time trying to get a villevan through this process, and that's not even a full kit Cheers Phil

Hello Phil. Yes Most defo' road legal. I am unable to view that link for some reason or other but according to the old points scoring process the DVLA used to run, due to the fact i have retained all the mechanical parts and the chassis from the original and it is still a four seater car (as such), then it will remain registered as a 2cv on the logbook. I will however insure it as a custom built vehicle to cover any 'police issues'. The problems you are having etc, is this because you are changing the vehicle type, ie from a saloon to a van???? When i built 'scar' my rat rod pickup, i had to change the log book to show as such. I simply sent it off to the DVLA and they requested that i take it too their office in Chelmsford where a man in a 'florry' jacket asked me a few questions about it, gave it a quick look over and then a week later the new log book arrived. Have you tried this approach??? Sometimes a little knowledge is better than a lot . Cheers Tony.

Hi Tony so long as they apply the points rule then you may well be right, but 'times they are a changin'' Is the chassis the original, or a galvo replacement (you've probably said, but I can't recall). If it's a replacement, the 'take it the DVLA office for a guy in a florry jacket' trip becomes a bit of a lottery, dependent (it seems) on which DVLA office you take it too. The conversion is part of the problem, but also the new galvo chassis and the fact that it has been shortened have opened a whole can of worms, as far as Preston DVLA are concerned. and that all started with exactly the sequence you describe for 'scar'! The infuriating thing is discovering that other conversions the same as mine are still being passed by other local offices with no problem Phil

 Re: Sudo Kubel
I think then Phil, the answer has got to be that you take it to another DVLA office. Tell them that youve had the original chassis 'galved' to make it last longer and dont even mention anything about shortening the chassis. At the end of the day they havent got a clue what the original car was fitted with and so will only react to whatever you tell them. Its a classic case of being TOOOOOOO honest. The bloke came out of his office, took a walk around 'scar', didnt even look underneath, just asked me a few questions about it and that was that, log book in the post!!! How about you get a mate to take it into another test centre for you, get it registered in their name for a short time until the paperwork comes through and then send it off again to put it back into your name. What has the guy at the villevan place said?? When i spoke to him at the National last year he led me to believe that there would not be any probs with one of these conversions. Always a way around these things mate one way or another . Tony.
