When you mentioned Hybrid i got all excited about a modern petrol/electric car which runs of human feces and soap Still sounds like a nice ride though Harley

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
While the Panhard, Simca & Renault are undoubtedly nice looking cars, you've got to wonder just how you're going to get on with restoring what are essentially 50 year old foreign cars that weren't, bar the Panhard? offered for sale in the UK.
Obviously you have gained much experience in restoring your 2cv & some of that can of course be applied to any vehicle, but it's the little niggly things, where would you go to ask? I think you'd agree that with this forum & earlier the 2CVGB forum you have had much invaluable help & have overcome all manner of obstacles. Of course the above cars all have their own following, but none of them come close to 2cvs & how/where would you source parts - i'm guessing the majority of parts, except perhaps service items would have to come from France?

Hey Harley, I'm doing my bit by driving a 2cv, I don't need to go all biodiversity now do I. Neil wrote: how/where would you source parts - i'm guessing the majority of parts, except perhaps service items would have to come from France? Yep, and for me that's a huge drawback. I do have a mate who lives in France and has set up a business sourcing old cars, or replacement parts in France, but obviously they then have to be transported back which would mean the occasional transit van trip down to the Limousin. There's absolutely no doubt that I couldn't have managed to finish my own rebuild without the help of all the guys on this forum (although I could well have done without the 'help' of the bloke on other one) and the 2cv related spares situation makes it a no brainer really, but then in doing another 2cv I ask myself where's the challenge? On the other hand it would be a waste not to use all the knowledge that I have gained on this particular type by doing something else. I suppose that to find the various parts that I need for either car I would end up in France at some point anyway, so as you say it's probably the huge network of support for 2cv's that will sway it in the end.

Why left-hand-drive, Old Nail? Authenticity? Given that overtaking in a 2CV is a pretty hairy experience at the best of times, will having next-to-zero forward vision help?

I only have trouble when overtaking slow stuff like tractors or vw campers. When you've got a good head of speed and an open road you can see round stuff ok. I struggle with overtaking on a motorway in the Ami because the van blindspot is on the wrong side.

Given that it'd be a galvanised, 602'd, Dyane geared, 1964 'ripple' with bench seats, I'd be pushing it a bit to claim any authenticity. No mate, I'm hoping to permanently escape my confinement in Britain at some future date, and as the car would be a 'keeper' then it would be nice to have LHD in anticipation of that. I'd take it with me. RHD would be ok too I suppose, because the volume of traffic in rural France is nowt like the levels we have to contend with here, so I'd manage.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
You'll have a far higher chance of locating a LHD '60s 2cv, over a RHD version.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Undoubtedly, but the bulkhead would have to be changed to accommodated the pendant pedals of the 602 set up anyway so it would probably be easier to source the bits in RHD actually, bar for the body shell. We'll see.
