all excellent fun.. but it turned out the motor was running too hot when on sustained high speed motorway runs.. so a few modifications to green car and his heart of darkness were necessary...

Green Car Version 2.0.1

Image

exhausts wrapped and cranked out a little further from the sump/engine casing

Image

an additional heavy duty Mocal oil cooler with underbody plate to protect it and help it get with airflow

Image

also a kenlowe fan fitted with an automatic function on it (see the little brass bit cable tied in the corner of the picture). It has a 3 position switch on the dash, off, auto and on.

Image

yep it's all pretty tight in there

also.... it turns out that the original gearbox wasn't up to the job... it lasted approximately... 10 hours.

All of its new shockproof gear oil decided that it wanted to work it's way up the oil return scroll and be over the clutch rather than inside the box.

The result of this was a swift call to Dr Pembro who put together a magic box in a week! Don't quote me on what he did but I think the inlet shaft was sent off to be machined (by a 2cv race hero?) and a seal put on it. A higher ratio diff was put in it and some baffles added - another 2cv racer mod I think.

When it got back to the workshop Pete and Sparrow Junior who have been green cars custodians recently also put a breather in the top..

.. the last words of Sparrow Junior keep coming up in my head though...

"when will you want more power?"

(he actually meant that.)

If I lived outside of France I would go this way but having turbo is totally illegal let alone a BMW unit... Non standard engines are not allowed....

Nice one Fritz!
How did tou plumb the fuel swirl pot?
Do you have x2 high pressure fuel pumps or one low pressure 'lift/feed' pump and one high pressure?
