Is it ok to roll/flip a van body on to it's roof to work on the underneath? Provided it's sitting on mattresses.

No matresses !!
It seems that if they catch fire they burn like hell!
You could use old tyres

Geert, did you brace the body shell before you rolled it over?

Smiffy, I braced it before I took the shell from the chassis , as you can see in this picture.

The most difficult bit is to turn it on one site. I used some old tyres to support the A and B post and the back of the van while turning over.
Best is to have some help .
The last bit ( turning it on the roof) is much easier , but you need some help as well to prevent the car rolling over and ending on the other site instead of the roof.
Mind you, you need some space to turn !
Shall I come over and give you a hand ?

What a kind offer! Heck of a distance to travel though!

Been casting about for inspiration lately. Seen this? (Note: features yet another ridiculously clean and tidy Dutch workshop! ;) )

Well, I thought you would say : "Thanks for the offer, but I am most capable to do it myself , with a little help of my dear wife ( or neighbour or any body else) !
Than you would say to your fellow Brits : "They are so kind those Dutch!"
And I would not have to bother to come over to the Midlands by train , ferry and taxi etc.
Now I am not sure :?
