I'm intrigued, how would that have made a difference to the problems Tom's having now?

So, started on the brake-rebuild/refurbish today..Took the callipers off, popped the brakeing cilinders out, took the handbrakesystem off from the callipers and put everything in a bucket filled with diesel. Clean all of it with a brush and used a compressor to dry them.

Callipers look a lot cleaner now;)
Also fitted new rubber rings/seals in the callipers. Tomorrow I'll put everything back together. Also gonna replace the brake lines/pipes on the front of the car. Discs will be changed also tomorrow.

Also took the rope from my bumper, because at last years's Spa meeting I got some new rope from Joe_Catchoe and fitted this... Going to do this over tomorrow, because it'sa bit off-centre.
Will upload some pictures later today.

Also fitted a new first silencer on my mom's red 2cv...

Whoa! Busy day!

I have to rebuild the front brakes on my car soon, they are beyond useless, I can't say I'm too excited about doing it but I think I might cheat and do most of the work on a new gearbox on the bench. I'm guessing you're going to waggel instead of Caen this year?

On a new gearbox sounds like a good idea... In that way you can adjust the handbrake without scraping the skin off your hands on the startermotor, exhaust and other sharpish stuff..

And yes, I'm going to Waggel...

@ Punky, you're right... Only not looking forward to the handbrake adjustment...

Put all the bits from the callipers together and had no parts left :)
Put the new discs on, adjusted the handbrake (several times), but they work better than they ever did before.
Put the new breakpads in, and bled the system. Pedalpressure feels like it used to be. Gonna testdrive it tomorrow.

Also fitted a new aluminium (cooker hood) tube around one of the heater tubes because the old aluminium tube had a crack in it..

Dad painted the bootlid, it makes the car look better.. In a few months the bootlid will be renewed, together with the rest of the backside..

To go on with my monologue:
Did a quick test drive this morning, and beside some smoke (stinking) and a bit of air in the system the car brakes great!
Just drove back home, a 150km trip and the smell is gone.

Photo's coming tomorrow i think ;)

Good work Tom. Good breaks are the way forward. Or in the case not when you can break.

Good work Tom. I think it brakes a lot better no, than the steel on steel situation before. ;)
