Very nice work, looks really good, you would be one of the few people I'd let near my car with a welder! keep it up!

Thanks for that Rusty, very kind words indeed. Although, my grinding is probably better than my welding! ;)

Speaking of welding, it's nearly finished! I've got a few bits to do tomorrow then, with a bit of luck, I'll be able to slap the seam sealant on and tidy stuff up then go over it mechanically for MOT.................. 8-)

That's it, I've finished the structural welding!

I still want to repair the front inner wheel arches in a few places before I put the wings on but, other than that, I can put the welder away for a bit.*

I'll hopefully get the seam sealing done this week and then, get it reassembled next weekend. 8-)

Looking good Spanners, I'm quite envious of your ability to 'get on with things'.

What type of primer are you using, something special? It's a funny colour.

And if you'll excuse my ignorance, is primer, seam sealer, top coat, the proper way to do these things?

It's, erm, some rust proofing primer that I've used for years with (generally) good results.

As for whether I shouldn't be putting it on before seam sealant, I don't know. Due to the fact that my garage is rather cold and damp, I always try to get some primer on to the repaired areas either right after welding or straight after attention from the grinder whilst the metal is still warm so it runs into the nooks and crannys and dries fairly quickly!

When I then apply the seam sealer, it softens the primer a little bit and goes on nicely but not too thick thus saving me some money!

Then I'll paint the whole lot with stone chip before applying a top coat (or few) of choice.

Probably not the right way of doing things but it works for me. 8-)

Oh, Joolz-I really have to drag myself out into the garage to get on with things especially when it's not too warm but, I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end-I'm planning on taking it for MOT on Saturday 12th!

A strange thing happened today, I woke up in a good mood! That's nowt short of unheard of these days.

But anyway, I digress. Actually, I don't entirely because, not only have I been in a good mood today, I've also felt enthusiastic about things-including the Ami.

So, when I got home, I put the heating on in the garage and left it to warm up while Mrs Spanners and myself indulged ourselves with sausage sarnies (Rachael is on nights so it was her breakfast time) before going back out and getting on with seam sealing etc.

The result is, after 3 1/2 hours of highly toxic fumes, I have something that is really starting to resemble a car again. No, really!

At this rate, I'm going to have to look into the intricacies of registering it.

With a bit of luck, I'll get out there tomorrow night and do some more work, the end really could be within sight now.......

I spent yesterday evening and the best part of today in the garage breathing in noxious paint fumes etc but am now seeing results.

Tomorrow should see me photographing a fully re-assembled Ami! 8-)
