KBO George, you've done a great job so far with the cab, I'm always looking forward to reading the next installment. Just eat the elephant one burger at a time.

I think the Mobylette/Solex repair agent coachwork is a great idea for the finished van. 8-)

Cheap mole grips from B&Q.......I now have a big box of them after doing my 500 ! I think 1 fiver for 3 different sizes

You need clecko fasteners. They're about one hundred million billion times better that mole grips for a lot of sheetmetal applications.

P.S. Nice 500. I'd love to rebuild one of those.

Clecko! That's what I was thinking of, they look brilliant - Thanks!

Love the 500, I was looking for one a while ago, but there's no way I can afford it :(

Too wet to do anything much today, I played with mobylette engine instead. (Nicely stewed crankcase, with bay leaves and a bit of ground black pepper. mMm, lovely :D )

I really hate those bits there! Real pain to get nice. Still need to weld the holes, grind back again and so on. And I'm sure when it's shot blasted a load of pinholes will appear. :(

It'll be worth it in the end!

Keep an eye out for aldi and liddl specials they were dirt cheap!

Also when filling up the areas like the winscreen A pillar put a copper support behind and dont go grinding back with a hard disk it gouges and is rough use 80 grit flap disks they dont last too long and are relativley expensive but you can blend your welds in loverly

still an impressive job!

oh, and why the cases in a Bain Mari with the Bay leaves ?

I'd guess that George has been banned from using the oven to heat up crankcases and cylinder heads.
However, the ban may not have mentioned other parts of the cooker. :)

Bay leaves? For good luck, of course... ;)

Actually the bay leaves were a (Futile) attempt to mask the pervading oily smell that lead to the oven ban in the first place. The pepper was just for flavouring, obviously. :P

I'm afraid there'll be no more news on the van for a week or so, funds have run dry. :(

However, I've persuaded dad to employ me repairing his 2cv, so I'm going to spend a good week on that, still get the fun of working on 2cvs ( ) be able to afford my welding gas / wire and painting equipment plus you get to see pictures of 2cv bodywork - it's just a different 2cv.

I was sure I had made a thread for it over here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it, so I'll make a new one and explain the story so far. ;)

(Thanks for the tip by the way Sean, I'll try out a bit of copper when I repair dad's bulkhead.)

The time lapse film is great!

cant believe you got the bumper and lamp bar off without resorting to the angle grinder!

TRACTOR PAINT
TRACTOR PAINT
TRACTOR PAINT
TRACTOR PAINT !(get the hint?)
(ask anyone that has seen my car- its not concourse but it works a treat)
cheap compressor - look out on gum tree and other local free ads and Machine mart gun

Offcuts of copper water pipe flattened at the end and filed flat tight contact with the back of the metal and you can just weld over the holes

I spent the first 3 minutes hoping some would lift the tarp off the car on the right because it looked like it was an escort. I was disappointed!
